It's been fun, but I just bought a 2022 4Runner!

Yep, me too. I've got a 2017 TRD OR Tacoma and a 2020 TRD OR 4Runner. The 4Runner is much better vehicle overall. I don't drive the Tacoma as much, but the bed comes in handy at times. If I had to pick only one it would be the 4Runner.

The first mod I made on my 4Runner was replacing the front shocks. They are too soft and I did not like the nose dive on hard braking. The Toytec Boss shocks made a huge difference.

I'm a bit jealous. I needed to get something that would tow my touring bike on a uHaul trailer when I traded in my Rav4 last May, and either vehicle would have fit the bill. Would have loved the 4Runner but I couldn't stretch my budget enough so I ended up with my truck. Don't get me wrong, I love my taco and have done stuff to make it my own, but I think next time around it will be a 4Runner.

Funny, I have a 2017 Taco TRDOR and the new 2022 4Runnder TRDOR and I don't believe that at all. It is not a much better vehicle. In fact, I will tell you where the each is better as I see it.
    1. 3.5l taco engine is a much better engine than the 4.0l engine of the 4runner. Not only does it get much, much better mileage if you actually test it and are honest about it, but it also has more power if you know how to drive a vehicle based on it's power band. my taco easily gets 3-4 mpg more than the 4runner. And I know my 3rd gen taco will smoke a 4runner or 2nd gen taco in a drag race.
    2. Then there is the much larger rear axle of the Tacoma. 8.75" vs 8.2" . Does size matter? Well, it certainly would if the role was reversed, so it sure does now.
    3. Then there is the 6 speed auto, vs a 5 speed auto. yeah it has two over drives vs one n the 5speed, but with proper axle gears it will do much better overall.
    4. The body of the taco is squatter and I believe that makes a difference in body roll. The 4runner has way more body roll than the taco. This also allows you to lift the taco much more and be at the same height as the 4runner. That does make a CG difference.
    5. There there is the grill. I have been trying to find a metal grill for my 4runner and can't. I installed a steel grill to prevent debri from piercing my radiator on my taco. Plastic grills are pretty and worthless.

4runner advantages as I see them
    1. The 4runner is certainly roomier and it should be, being an suv.
    2. It also has the ability to fit larger tires more easily than the taco, in front. 285's are no problem with a 2inch lift. The taco needs caster/alignment changes to get them to fit with a 2inch lift.
    3. Steel fuel tank skid plate. This is much better than the crappy plastic skid on the taco. I am surprised no one has ever mentioned this before, but the fuel tank skid is pretty sturdy in the 4runner.

why not, lmao. All the effen whiny bitches complaining about lack of power from the 3.5l engine compared to the 4l, are full of sheeeeeiiitt. And that's easily provable in a drag race. That's the point. you must not be one of those whiny beeatches.

I have a 22 Taco and 21 4Runner and I agree. It blows my mind when people think the 4Runner drives better than the taco. Both are slugs but the 4Runner is a Limax Maxmimus compared to the Taco. I have WAY more fun in my Tacoma, even more so now that I have an MT and not the auto. The Taco is even more fun once you get it tuned. Something I don’t believe you can do with the 20+ 4Runners.

I would say the build and ride quality is slightly better than the taco but the big advantage is the extra room for passengers.

I feel like the only people that say the 4Runner is better than the taco either don’t own both and can’t do a long term comparison or have a taco that’s an AT that suffers from the common symptoms that people complain about and haven’t gotten a tune to remedy.

To me the 4Runner feels more solid going down the road, has less wind noise, actually downshifts and accelerates when you mash the fun pedal and has a more comfortable interior/seats. My Tacoma has more power, but the auto trans needs the tsb or a tune done as most of the time it just revs and won't accelerate when I mash the gas or it hesitates before downshifting. I guess that's why I don't like it as well as the 4Runner. To each their own. I don't hate my Tacoma. I just prefer to drive the 4Runner if I have the choice.

Edit: Also, when it comes to gas mileage the Tacoma easily wins.

The 4runner definitely feels solid, but I think that is more an suv vs truck thing. Also, the 4runner does have better gearing than the taco. Although it isn't perfect. 4runner does feel more torque at low rpm and it's noticeable, but once you hit 2500rpm, the taco engine comes alive and pulls hard. They are two very different engines.
