Cool. So can talent take me all the way to $50k, or do I need to shell out money for certs and classes as well?

I have a race to win.

How relevant is a CompTIA A+ cert in 2022?

Certs are overrated imo. They used to matter but most are a waste of money these days. Lots of people worry about not having experience but if you’ve setup a computer, built one, installed applications, installed updates, fixed grandmas phone, etc that’s all relevant experience people don’t even think about. Create a LinkedIn profile and opt into jobs and you’ll probably have a recruiter find you in a few weeks lol

in my like 30 seconds of effort, there’s 300+ entry level jobs posted for KC.

I typically search via LinkedIn. That’s how I got this job. Put your work history and list out the things you’ve done. I get messages from recruiters at least monthly, if not more often.

Dude. I edit the bios of my work comp every time they push an update. I hate the "wake from ethernet" setting. For some reason it's annoying to have my computer already on when I get to work.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Definitely not required but can be helpful. LinkedIn also has some competency things you can do to show you have various skills.

a lot of the entry level positions really are looking for people willing to learn and who can pick up new things. Definitely don’t need super deep knowledge

Don’t underestimate “I had a problem, did some research and figured it out on my own”. So many people struggle to do even the most basic of troubleshooting..

I basically built my career on troubleshooting. I sure don’t know everything but I can work though the problem to figure it out. There’s a severe lack of basic critical thinking skills these days. Start with the basics- is it turned on, have you rebooted, is it updated, what’s changed recently or the last thing you did.. those things can solve A LOT of issues.

Given the headaches I'm having with ISPs blocking certain "old" devices (4+ years) lately, maybe I should start down this path

Connecting them directly to the battery so they are always on is preferred. Gotta let people know you have them.
