Installed Aprilaire whole house humidifier. I am pretty fussy so it takes me twice as long as a contractor (maybe 3 times), but its a lot cheaper and done the way I want it. Was a bit nervous cutting into the ducting as it is a point of no return (middle of winter in WI). Finish up tomorrow morning with the soft copper water feed, tie in to Nest thermostat, and tap into the furnace drain line.

I use them quite a bit. It's a 1/4" quick change chuck. A standard drill bit will not work but you can buy 1/4" hex drill bits and it will drill just fine.

You'll like it! We have an Aprilaire unit too though we don't have it hooked up to the thermostat. Rather we went with the Aprilaire controller that has an outside temperature probe. We tried it with the Nest but kept getting tons of condensation on the windows. Switched to the separate controller with the probe and haven't had that issue since.

Good to know and thanks for responding. I was going to purchase that model with electronic control and temp probe, but they are impossible to find right now as it is peak season and delivery dates are into April. If you find one in stock prices are ridiculous. So I went with the 500M (manual control) and then found out it will run on the Nest. I will definitely keep an eye on it and if I have issues, I can switch to the manual control that came with it and keep my eye out for an electronic control on Ebay. Thanks.

    No luck.

Here is our regional problem. We live about 15 or so miles from the Canada border. Depending on a couple/multiple factors - many house build singly here use all/some/a few things, (maybe) only available in Canada. The two houses in the region I have owned have a mix of stuff.
