So here's a weird one. The truck is acting like there's an intermittent hydraulic issue in the brakes, but I can't find any leaks in the front or rear. All the hard lines are clean, all the rubber lines appear clean, with no residue and no drips. Fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir has not dropped at all and all the fluid seems clean. I replaced the master cylinder in 2020 because I stupidly dumped power steering fluid in it, but the truck was off and the pedal hadn't been depressed, so it was solely in the reservoir. I went over to Advance and picked up one of their Carquest Wearever OEM master cylinders and installed it.

Now, what happens is when I depress the brake slowly, it sinks to the floor and makes an uunnnnh sound very slightly when it bottoms out, the truck won't stop until I smash my foot down on the pedal, like it's working without any kind of boost whatsoever. I can get it back up to pressure, most of the time, by pumping the brakes with the truck. This doesn't happen every time though, sometimes it's fine and stays at pressure, and then the next time it just drops. With the truck off, I can get the pressure back up after a couple pumps and it's a rock hard pedal, like standing on a wooden stump. If I smash the brakes, it acts like a regular set of brakes and will stop, no problem. But if I keep pushing the pedal, I can often get it back down to the floor, sometimes it rebounds as I lift my foot, sometimes not.

So I pulled the front wheels, checked the lines, checked rotors and pads, cleaned them up. I pulled the vacuum line to the booster, it builds vacuum no problem. When I pulled the check valve from the booster, it hissed at me, so it was under pressure. The grommet feels like it's possibly a little loose, but it's not dry-rotted or anything. I have not yet put the check valve under a pressure gauge, but mostly because I don't have a hose large enough for it to test with my mightyvac. I didn't pull the back wheels yet, but I did look back there and there is no fluid around the drums, nothing on the tires, the hard and rubber lines all look clean and fine, without cracks.

Could it just be the master cylinder being shit from Advance and finally starting to give? I can get a toyota OEM master cylinder for $160, which seems like a good deal since the advance OEM was only slightly cheaper - it was literally all I could find locally in a pinch, so that's why I went with it.

I doubt it. ABS functions fine when I roll over ice and stab the brakes. I did that repeatedly for probably 30 minutes, without a problem. ABS actuated, pulsed the brakes, and pulsed the brake pedal so I knew it was functioning.

Had basically the same issue on my old 06. Brake worked until it warmed up and then sank to the floor. Ended up being that I didn’t bleed the abs pump when I did the brake bleed so there was still air at the pump side. Not sure if thats the same as yours but I figured it’s worth mentioning.

I appreciate you mentioning it. I don't think it's an ABS issue because the brakes do this warm or cold. The ABS pump works and has worked since I swapped the master cylinder in 2020 and since I just cycled it a bunch of times, with pressure not being lost, I assume it's not air in the ABS. I have done no work on the brakes since I replaced the master cylinder, and when I did that it was strictly a swap. I bled the brakes just because it was smart, but had very little air to bleed out front and rear, but there shouldn't have been an opportunity for air to get into the ABS pump.

Looks awesome! Feel bad for those small % of unlucky Taco owners with the paint peel issue. Hopefully Toyota takes account and helps those folks out. I'm fully expecting my 2020 to age as well as yours. I just give mine a gentile hand wash as often as possible and just use Meguiar's D15601 Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax. It's still looking like new inside & out.

3 coats of flat black Rustoleum high heat grill paint on my stainless steel exhaust tip.
Started the process of trimming my Brute Force Fab hc rear bumper. I'm planning on trimming for 35s later this year so I figured I might as well get this done before I paint and install it. Took off 2". Still need to finish getting the bumper and cutoff piece cleaned up so that I can weld the end piece back on to box it back in.
Taped up and ready to cut.

Found out last minute nthe diaphragm in my gas tank failed so I had to flux core weld. Was a bit sketchy but i did what I could lol

Thought you had trouble lighting fuel when you struck an arc.
I had a 67’ Jeep pickup with an steel aux tank in the cab. It had a leak. Took the tank out and filled it with water so I could solder the seam. Luckily I left the cap off. A small amount of air was in the tank as I had to maneuver to solder. I got a couple of nice burp-wooshes from the open end of the tank. Your exhaust just brought back a memory. Good job on the weld.

I prepped the edges very thoroughly but all the carbon build up makes it pretty difficult to strike an arc. I had to do small 1/4" sections at a time and keeping the pool consistent is nothing like a normal GMAW 3/16" plate weld. I dont prefer FCAW at all but it was really windy today so it worked out pretty good.

Sounds like you tickled the edge of an explosive situation lol glad you made it through :D
