Consolidated Super White 040 Paint Issue/Failure Thread - With Toyota Corp. Update

Appreciate it. I'm gonna fight hard for this one and I intend to take you all with me. This is unacceptable.

 

The paint code referenced in this petition is incorrect....unless it refers to another paint.

040 is Super White

My 06 White Tacoma has paint flaking off in small areas. Is there a recall?

 

sign the petition and we will get them to start a campaign to fix any taco with this issue.

My Dad’s tacoma as well as mine have this peeling super white paint. We have 2nd gens so Toyota told us to pound sand. I hope you 3rd gens are able to raise more hell with them on this.
It’s total BS as my work truck is an 05 tundra in superwhite and the paint is fine, they obviously are cheaping out or not painting properly these days.

 

Not interested in giving my name and email to change.org or any other organization that has terms and conditions I have no control over. A Petition that I would sign would be managed by this forum. Not going to get "sucked in"!

 

my 2021 already has a bunch of chips all over. glad i don't care too much about the appearance.

 

I am the original owner of a 2017 Sport assembled in MX. When leaving work yesterday, I noticed a chip of paint missing just behind the passenger door on the driver’s side. Upon further inspection, most of the paint around the seal in that area has bubbled and will soon fail. This location seems to be a common one for Super White issues on Tacomas (based on posts by others). I haven’t checked the truck thoroughly for issues in other locations and am keeping fingers crossed that it’s just the one location. I’m not optimistic, however.

I contacted Toyota Customer Engagement, and a case was opened last night. They advised me that my VIN was not associated with a recall, etc., but recommended that I take my truck in for inspection by my local dealer service department.

Like many others, my truck has been extremely well maintained since purchase. This is incredibly disappointing, but I hope that Toyota will offer up some good will. Paint should not be failing on a vehicle of this age.

Edit 1/23/22 Washed and took pics today. As expected, the paint issue is in multiple locations.

 

Same with my 06. I'll give the Service Writer I deal with at Poway Toyota a yell and see what results. Report to follow!

 

I ended up just trading the truck in with resale values as high as they are. I’d recommend that option if you get a solid offer. Got more than I paid for my 17 after 5 years and 70k miles.

 

Did you have to negotiate much on that? My 17 is at 85k and a dealer causally lowballed me

 

if anything ever erupted on my 2020 Super white I'd do what you did or go all in and pay to have the entire truck repainted.

 

Update on my paint issue: Toyota sent me to get an estimate. They are offering to pay $2100/$3050 under their goodwill program. It’s obviously better than nothing, but still poor service for a known problem that they have failed to properly address/correct.
