    Big day today.

Went out this morning and used my snow chains for the first time. Just a casual drive up a maintained dirt road with a few inches of fresh snow. They were great once I got them untangled. Did a bit of hiking while I was out, too.

Got home, checked the local salvage yard and they had a brand-new 98 up for picking--"0 days in yard".

Scored a full set of 5100s, a full set of mud flaps, an almost full set of lock cylinders with keys (ignition, 2 doors, airbag; somebody else snagged the fuel door while I was working on the shocks but the tab was broken anyway) and a few other odd parts for under $125 out the door. The diffs were already gone (4.10 with ADD and e-locker) and the fiberglass fender flares were all damaged from the rollover. The leaf pack looked to be upgraded, but I couldn't tell what and I didn't want to fight to get it off--this yard tends to let trucks rest on the leafs and I didn't want to deal with repositioning it.

The truck had the deckplate mod, which was interesting to see.

I spent a good two hours fighting with the front-right coilover. The lower bolt had seized into the bushing sleeve. The bushing tore. Hammering on the bolt bent the lower mount tabs rather than moving the bolt. I tried removing the LCA so I could take it home and cut it. Both alignment cams came free (a miracle!) but I couldn't get the rear one past the steering rack and my compact impact didn't have enough ugga-duggas to get the rack bolts free. Just then an angel appeared and lent me a sawzall.

On the way home, I saw a lifted/squatted third gen. Like, the rear was at a respectable 4x4 height but the front was several inches higher.

Awesome, sounds like a great score!

You go to your salvage yard often?

    I have, but only once.

I was getting feeders at a local pet store and had the 4Runner with me. Had parked up front and as I was getting out I got stopped by an older guy complimenting me on my rig.

Turns out, he was the owner of an FJ55 that was across the parking lot. We chatted for a bit about how he just sold another one and had that one restored. Was such a badass rig.

I'm probably there once every month or two on average. The yard is only a 15-minute drive away, so I watch the inventory and make a visit whenever something interesting shows up. I've had pretty good luck there.

There was also an old W2 (2020) in the cab. I brought that home to properly destroy it.

You guys are spoiled. In NJ this is how I junk yard.

Axle with completely seized e brake shoes. IMG_2984.HEIC.jpg IMG_3089.HEIC.jpg

T case with half a gallon of water in it. This one took hours to clean. Had to rebuild it too. Got the matching trans full of water too. IMG_2939.HEIC.jpg

This motor was a nightmare. Had to take it apart down to the heads and oil the cylinders and do every seal and gasket. Runs like a champ but sucked.

I’m totally jealous of @xtremewlr ’s 4G4R! My boss has one that I asked her to not sell before talking to me.

But I love my daily :rasta:

Damn, I do love the 60/62s as well. Those were the baller rides when I was kid growing up.

    Oooh, 5 cylinder turbo?

I borrowed one for awhile when I was still working at the dealership.

Yeah Todd's 4R is niiiice and super clean especially after having redone his interior and everything. Rode in it a few times already.

It’s an S60 T6 R-Design, so it’s the 6-cylinder turbo. It’s quick enough to be fun to drive but not too much to where I can really get myself in trouble.

The sport mode is definitely rowdy, tho :D

These car seat covers from @Robmonster117 are freaking amazing, so much better than the cheap universal ones I had before. Thanks man and and thanks @Area51Runner for tagging me on them!
