I remember reading that somebody imported a Sera into the US, managed to make it California-compliant, and got it registered there; However, it shares the majority of its mechanical parts with the US-market Toyota Paseo and I can't imagine that being particularly hard...

I think there may be a way to get something here but I'm not 100% sure if it's correct. I think if you own a vehicle in another state and move to CA, there might be a process to get it exempted. I think it involves a dump truck full of money and a contract to vote democrat for the rest of your life and well into death or something along those lines. I'll be solving the problem in the not so distant future by escaping this shithole and never turning back.

That, I did not know! I've only seen one Paseo in the nearly eight years I've been on TW; Must not be many left...

Yes, the Paseo's entire platform was 100% Tercel

But it was a bit more refined and aesthetically pleasing, and you could even get it as a convertible!

I'm talking about the platform and drivetrain....not what was on top of it. Mechanically....the Paseo and Tercel were identical. And there was little refinement difference between them. Both budget friendly vehicles. One just looked a little sportier.

Much like the Paseo's direct competitor the Mazda MX-3 which shared it platform and drivetrain with the 323....the exception being the MX-3 GS which had it's own unique tiny 1.8 V6, not shared with the 323....though the platform still was
