Hot water hookup on garden hose

My parent' house many years ago had 2 water spigots outside for hot and cold water. I've never seen it on any other house. How common is this?

 

Might be a regional thing? Not sure I’ve ever been to a house with both.

 

I've seen it, had a wye hose for mixing
there are exterior faucets the have both hot and cold so you can mix with out any extra
could be handy for washing dogs

 

Never thought of using it to wash dogs. This could be real useful when they get muddy on cold days

 

When my dad had his garage built, he plumbed it so he could have hot water at the spigots. Super simple to do, tapped into the hot and cold at the washing machine with a 1/4 turn valve on each. Then a simple T plumbed to the valves and then out to the spigots. Can have cold, mix, or hot water by setting the valves under the sink. They use it to wash dogs, and wash vehicles.

 

Never heard of this ever, but sounds awesome

 

i have one similar to this installed off the corner of the house. makes washing the cars in 40 degree's bearable.

it's not very common because they aren't cheap. like most homeowners.

 

I have hot & cold water outside faucets at my house. I don't think it's very common, but it is useful when washing vehicles/dogs/kids when it's cooler weather.

I grew up in upstate NY, and my Dad had a hot water tank in the garage/shop and used the hot water to spray off vehicles in the winter, among other things. I grew up with a source of hot water for outside use, so it was a normal thing to have.

 

When I replaced my water main eight years ago my plumber said... "you are getting hot/cold water outside at your spigot". I was skeptical but agreed. I think he charged me $300 total and ran new Pex.

I would not have it any other way... hot water wash buckets for winter car washing, cleaning stuff in general. It's just a joy. And, we used the faucet linked above. I send him a text every year at Christmas thanking him for the work.

 

I've never seen it outside. Come spring I'm putting a tap in my garage though. It will be nice to be able to get a gallon of hot water in the garage to wash something up when it's -30 out.

My laundry room will be easy to tap into.

I won't have a sink or drain. Just the tap.
