Pressure washing with the 40 degree nozzle is fine. Just keep it on a angle and keep it moving. I wouldn't be too aggressive near the front calipers. You will blow out the pad grease and pin grease on the caliper. Pick any name brand suds. Don't use Dawn unless you are about to polish your Taco. Dawn cleans too good. You will have no wax on your sheet metal. If that matters any.

 

Ivory is better...leaves no residue.

 

303. Don’t need much and smells great. It’s a little pricey. Someone in here recommended it. I’ve recently used Chemical guys in a foam gun. Washed my wife’s 4Runner. It was okay. I’llbe trying it again next weekend in the taco to see if I get better results.

 

I've found less issues if you never use a pressure washer...they tend to push water where you don't want to be. Never use a dish wash, or a laundry detergent for a car wash....even a dumb ass like me knows that.

 

I am not a big fan of using foam cannons. However, I am a big fan of a particular wash - Sonax.

 

Whatever you do, try it on the wifes ride first.

 

I haven't seen Dove dish soap since the 80s...
You all using bar soap?

 

Always heard that a dish soap will remove any waxes. Not sure what is important to look for to preserve any waxes or protectants that have been previously applied but, I think maybe it is the pH of the soap solution??

 

Ivory body wash, bar soap, and dish soap. Got some dove bar soap to.

 

Meguiars ceramic wash and wax is by far my favorite car soap.

Although in your case and others dealing with salt contamination a higher pH soap will help neutralize the acidity created by the hydrolysis of the salts, there are effective acidic and neutral pH soaps on the market, including those sold by Adam's and Chemical Guys. pH depends on intended application.

 

Just about any over the counter car shampoo will do the job. Some have wax mixed in some don't. None are as harsh as dish soap that is formulated to emulsify oil, grease and waxes. I'd only use dish soap (Blue Dawn) if I wanted to strip all of the old wax prior to clay bar and start a new wax layer. I have however used it on my wheels and tires. Tires followed by two coats of 303. No wheel shine for me. I like my tires dark black with no shine. 303 does that.

 

I used Adam's products for about a decade, still use their polishes on the boat. Then I went to Zaino stuff. I like Zaino better than Adam's now, use their Z7 Car Show Shampoo on all but my ceramic-coated Taco. I use CarPro Reset on the ceramic coated Taco. I did three coats of CarPro UK2.0 on it April 2019. I have only had to wash it once in almost two years. Listen: Ceramic coating is beyond anything you or I have ever experienced in the past. It will be a long time after coating before ANYTHING sticks to it, before you have to wash it the first time. A rain is your friend: it washes it! Washing you truck is what makes it look old prematurely. The action of rubbing any wash mitt or sponge over it produces micro-abrasions which refract light differently than a new un-abraded finish refracts light. You wash the new lustre off of it! You only learn this after the exuberance of youth causes you to wash a hole through the paint on the hood of your brand new 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton in roughly six years. Ask me how I know. I have a Honda-powered 4GPM, 3500psi power washer that I blew part of a body decal off of my 1993 4Runner. Lesson learned. So I purpose-built a Powerhorse Tool 1300/1600/1800/2200psi, 1.3 GPM pressure washer specifically for washing my vehicles. Water passes through a water-conditioning charcoal media infused with water-softening agents, then a micron filter so that it is as car finish friendly as possible. No water spots. Rinse with pressure washer, then massive foam applied with a foam cannon, let the foam sheet-off most of the grime, then rinse again with pressure washer. Then more foam, then gently wash with mitt without pressure, final rinse. Then blow-dry with a backpack leaf blower. All before the sun gets up above the treeline and before the wind comes up. No water spots. No abraided clear coat. Then pull it in the shop and recoat/feed the ceramic coating with CarPro Reload. (The only regret I have is not putting a wash bay in the shop.)

As Monty Python use to say, now for something completely different. Your wheels and wheel wells. Poor Boys Wheel Sealant. Two coats on the wheels, one on the wheel wells. Brake dust hardly sticks to the wheels, and that which does easily rinses off with water. NOTHING will stick to your wheel wells. Did it when I did the ceramic coating. Driving in rain rinses both! Bought my Sport DC in October 2018. It has only been washed five times.

 

Bring that nozzle a little too close......paint peel.

 

When its real dirty, I use baby shampoo.. if its good for babies... in the summer I just use water (cold)

 

A whole shopping cart full? Man that filter takes a lot of charcoal.

 

My favorites are the Adam's purple ultra foam, Adam's blue shampoo, and Jay Leno's pink wash and wax, but I use all of these...

1. Adams blue shampoo (hands down the best regular wash soap, adds gloss, smells berry, cleans very well)
2. Adam's purple ultra foam (awesome foam, adds gloss, smells grape, cleans very well)
3. Adam's red mega foam (too much foam, no gloss added, stinks)
4. Adam's wash and wax (it's alright, I like Leno's better)
5. Jay Leno's Garage pink wash and wax (extra, extra waxy, smells tropical, favorite scent)
6. Jay Leno's Garage red car wash soap (smells like red snow cones, smell is over powering and doesn't clean that well)
7. Mother's polishes gold class carnauba wash and wax (good cheap wash and wax, slightly better than meguiars, use on wheels, inside fenders)
8. Meguiars pink wash and wax from Costco (also good cheap wash and wax for wheels and inside fenders

 

I'll add I have DI Rinse Pro 100 Deionized tank that I use with a Honda gas pressure washer and MTM PF22.2 foam cannon. Also using a blue kobrajet hose from obsessed garage, standard 40 degree tip, and a sgs28 gun with swivel connected to the foam cannon.

Planning on picking up an MTM aqualine nozzle guard 40 degree tip from MTM and upgrading the pressure washer to a Kranzle 1322TS from obsessed garage as soon as they're back in stock.

The gas pressure washer is too loud and I like to watch tv in my garage when I'm washing/detailing.
