I just put my originals back in the box for cores and didn't say anything, they don't care as long as there's a core in the box. Half the time they don't even open the box lol.

Possibly another dumb question: I want to use the Stoptech smooth cryo rotors (P/N 120.44127CRY). Ordered from Morris4x4 with pricematch for like $82/each, said parts were in stock but they just keep pushing back my ship date (now to 2022) so I'm cancelling. I can't find anywhere else to get these without a huge jump in price. Planning to do the swap during T-Day week so like 10 days out.
    • Amazon only has 1 rotor in stock so that's no help. Also I kinda hate Amazon for how they treat workers.
    • BattleBornOffroad is who I originally pricematched to but read stories how their owners are major scammers, no dice.
    • Morris4x4, AutoAnything, et al are all the same. They just dropship, bad lead times, no bueno.
    • LMPerformance seems like a legit seller, however I tried calling many times to check availability and they don't answer the phone. Pass.
    • All other online sites (which there aren't many) either seem very dodgy or are way more expensive making it a non-starter.
    • TireRack confirmed in stock but total cost is $120/each to my door after tax. For smooth rotors. Yikes.
Anyone have a legit place I can source these from? Bizarre that it's so hard to order them. If I cant find them I'll stick with OEM, just trying to do it best the first time. TIA

Update 11/12 3:24pm: Decided I'm going with OEM based on cost and difficulty to source parts. Doubt the cryos are worth 2x the price anyways. Amazon is also a no-go for me as some others posted earlier in this thread of getting wrong or non-legit parts. Seems like TireRack is the place to get them right now due to constrained supply chains.

I’m on mobile and don’t have the links, but there is another “big brake” thread somewhere by crashnburn80 where they discuss Centric rotors. The 120 series are the budget parts and no better than OEM. No idea about TRQ brand - judging by price alone those look like the cheapest Chinesium quality you can find (ie probably not worth it).

Also for what it’s worth I got OEM rotors from Lewis Toyota in Kansas online with the free shipping promo they are doing, and sources Akebono premium pads from RockAuto. To my door they were nearly the same price as that Centric bundle you linked and I’d wager my stuff is higher quality.

Going to bed now but I’m 1/2 done doing this upgrade today and will finish tomorrow. Will post some thoughts later on after I get a chance to test a bit on the road.

Edit: here’s the link to the other thread I mentioned, 50 pages of enjoyment.

Thanks, @wi_taco! I had planned on ordering everything from Olathe, but Lewis has way better pricing right now.

Add me to the list of users who has done this mod. Link to my build with full details and part numbers. I wanted to use Centric cryo rotors but they seem to be out of stock everywhere (or triple price of OEM) so I went with OEM rotors this time. I also decided to use double pad springs as I saw some other thread saying it can possibly make it quieter but maybe it's snake oil - oh well, easy to remove if no benefit.

I think I need to bleed them better & get pads broken in, pedal feels softer and response no better than before which is opposite of what I would expect. Buttery smooth operation.

EDIT: For what it's worth the OEM rotors weight 22lbs each. More meat = potentially higher thermal dissipation capacity from what I understand.

EDIT #2: Pads seem to have bedded in now and braking has improved. There were no instructions that came with my Akebono pads so I just drove normally and tried not to do emergency stops for the first little while and now it feels good again (though my pedal feel could be better but I'm a perfectionist on that so it's probably fine and I'm just crazy). Is it worth the upgrade? Still hard to say, but if I really put my foot down it seems to stop faster so there's my $.02 opinion to share.

Finally got around to doing the install with the help of 99% of work by @El Taco Diablo and @roguegs. Passenger side went pretty smoothly, until we realized that the Akebono pads that I'd ordered were in fact the ones for the rear discs of a 2003-2009 GX470. Oops. Bought a set of Napa Premiums to use for now. Driver side was a complete clusterfuck, with us resorting to using a 3-arm puller to get the axle out, and then finding (during bleeding) that the driver-side Napa Eclipse caliper had poor QC and had the bleeder system clogged with sealant. After we removed the sealant, we were able to get it to bleed, but the bleeder valve itself leaked from the tip repeatedly. Ended up running over to O'Reilly's and buying a second driver-side reman caliper, which thankfully installed fine. No problems bedding the pads.

glad it all got sorted out…honestly I need to upgrade my stuff too but holding out for the 6 position BBK kit since I’m a heavy pig. At least I know I can stop with the current setup thanks to the brake test earlier today :anonymous: Saturday shenanigans in Hughson today with all the horrible drivers  those two old ladies were getting into it!

Another vote for this kit! Had a BBK sitting in my house but was worried about having a spongy brake pedal so I decided to try this setup on a whim. This truck is on 35's and a bit on the portly side. Before swapping to this setup I decided to do a quick brake test on the stock brakes at various speeds 45-65-70mph and painted lines where the truck stopped on the road. I then went home and swapped to the Napa Calipers, StopTech slotted rotors and Lexus pads. After installing this I drove the truck for a week to bed the pads in and then did the same brake test the following weekend. While this test was not really controlled I was surprised to actually feel my ABS really kicking in early and the truck seemed to plant itself hard vs just coming to a stop. In every case I could see the line that I had painted a good car + length in front of the truck. Now there are a ton of variables to this as the road gets dusty and the temperature's were not exactly the same but none the less I was impressed. I have since decided to put my truck on a diet and sold off the BBK kit and will stick this kit for now. Any way pic below of the kit just after installation and the modified dust shields to become future rock collector's :D ...

Yeah, and it's getting even heavier now! (buildout v1 is in the works)

This brake upgrade has been my plan all along; I just put it off for too long. I'm hopeful this will be a sufficient solution for me, and it should be for you too. What's the dry weight of your wedge?
