When I first looked into this system, I reached out to the guys at OEM and they said if I told them ahead of time what HU I was going with that they would tune their system to work with it when I purchased it. I decided to go a different route and purchase my own speakers and Audio Control amp to run everything. Even though it’s plug n play, you still have to do the same amount of work as installing an aftermarket system. They do make adaptors for aftermarket in the same fashion

Good to know. Thanks for the response. Out of curiosity, did you retain all of the steering wheel controls with the pioneer HU?

Oem audio plus reference 500 with dual subs
I bought the reference 500 with dual subs with dedicated sub amp and to be honest I have never heard my system at 100% I’ve had the system 7 or 8 months and there’s always a problem. When I bought the system it took 5 months to get it , then when I installed it I found out that oem sent me a bad speaker. I AM CURRENTLY ON MY THIRD REPLACEMENT SPEAKER…..THIRD…and still The problem has not been solved . If I could I would get my money back because this is the worst thing I ever bought. Not to mention they don’t tell you that you have to cut off half of the back panel until you purchase the system.

I ordered the reference 500. communication leading up to my order was great. shipping was really quick.

I know what you're saying about having to do some cutting for the rear sub. Once you place the order, they tell you that. I'm not very handy, nor do I trust myself cutting anything, so right now the system is sitting in the box until i can find somebody / somewhere to do the install for me.

The overwhelming majority of reviews are great, so I'm pretty excited to get it in.

thats noth'n compared to what I'm going thru with a hu install, having to connect wires and trying to figure out which connector goes where

OEM figures out everything for the system right down to the "tuning"
hence, plug it in and it's ready to play

I've had the reference 500 for a year and a half. If I had a do over, I'd do my own system.

The good: Mids and highs are clear but not harsh. Imaging is good. No distortion even at high volumes

    The bad:
    - The rear speakers had a pigtail rather than an integrated connector which, when plugged into the factory wiring, was a plastic connector just dangling in space--a rattle waiting to happen

    - The mounting bracket under the seat for the amps was way off. Holes were an inch off so I drilled new ones; the rear hook didn't come close to hooking in the seat springs so I used a bungee; the install video didn't say anything about the under seat wiring harnesses I'd have to unclip to mount the bracket--and there was no provision to secure them

    - Far too much mid bass. Turns out behind a trim panel on the sub amp are all the usual amp adjustments (gain, etc.). The LPF was cranked all the way to 500Hz so I had to tune the sub myself. Why would you 'tune' 500Hz to the sub?

    - The finish on the sub is the crappiest, most easily scratched finish ever.

    - The fuse holders and wiring under the hood are laughable crap. Literally looked like parts from Walmart

    - I provided a detailed customer survey highlighting these issues and got zero response. They were very responsive BEFORE they got my money....

Ordered the Evolution series, reference series speakers, single sub for my 2021 TRD Pro w/JBL a few days ago (3/28/22). Read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of YouTube videos. I listen to all music types and am looking for a clearer / louder sound than stock with the ease of plug and play. After compiling the good with the bad, i've decided to have faith in OEMAudio+.

I will be applying Noice sound deadener & insulation liner during the install (doors, floor, back wall). Hopefully this also helps my kids in the back seat hear me from the front seat better. So much road noise back there.

I'm prepared for a time consuming install. I will report back with results (Actual shipping lead times, installation time and challenges, sound of final product, etc.).

I did the Ref 500 series in my 2021 DCSB Taco. Single sub. I did the sound deadening. I couldn't be happier. Huge difference.

Is the sub supposed to be pretty weak?
Just installed it the single sub with dedicated amp and it’s pretty weak. The knob doesn’t seem like it does anything

Interesting..so I have the JBL deck, and ordered the dual amp setup with the sub/fiberglass box and new speakers and I can sorta feel the subwoofer..big difference over stock..I can hear and feel
the difference with the sub remote knob so feel like something is up with your setup..obviously you hear audio through the sub because you said "it's pretty weak"..maybe give them a call..you
get to speak with a engineer over the phone quickly...I just discovered they sell a second sub and amp that goes behind the drivers rear seat for under $800 and I'm going to buy it I think..their normal sub/amp
behind the passenger side is probably more than enough for the average listener but I like to really really feel the sub kick with heavy metal and the occasional IC3PEAK/GHOSTMANE album. You should hear/feel
a decent amount over the stock sub, otherwise somethings not right in my opinion.

If you are looking to shake the windows in the cab or have folks outside be able to listen to your playlist this system is not it. This system was designed to give you a clean soundstage with a smooth bass roll off. So yes, power output will be weak. I had no expectations when I purchased this system to get attention from bystanders at the mall parking lots. There are plenty of other audio manufacturers for that demographic.

not my intention to get attention from bystanders. Just thought it would have been a littler more oomf than a hmph.

Most people on this forum that have this system will almost always mention how GOOD this system sounds but hardly anyone will mention whether this system will shake the windows when cranking the volume. Just about every factory system nowadays will shake the rear view mirror so take that with a grain of salt. I wish more people should have made that point clear when they were giving their reviews at the start of this thread. Most people assume that spending over a grand on car audio would result in better sound and a louder setup. Unfortunately this is not the case. You either get convenience of plug/play and great sound or you pay for professional installation and get cabin shakers. The reason I chose OEM+ for my setup nearly 5yrs ago was because I didn't want to lose the ability to use my steering wheel keys/buttons and some of the vehicles functionality that is integrated with the stock HU. This system allows me to get a little more hymph in the bass department and a better soundstage without losing functionality with the stock HU. A lot has changed in the past 3yrs. You can now pick up Android HU for a fraction of the cost you would spend on major brand HU. Many of the Android HU come with plug and play adapters specific for your vehicle and include the CAN bus adapters which allows the HU to be fully integrated with your vehicle at no extra cost. In fact, you can reprogram some of the steering wheel keys to do other functions as well as add additional customizable features of your vehicle to be fully integrated with your Android HU (cameras, sensors, etc.) This is not the case with the overpriced major brands like pioneer, Sony, Kenwood and the likes. Most of them make your infotainment look totally aftermarket, lack of integrated features, and stuck with same display layout without any customization or widgets. I recently ordered the JOYING Android 12 Radio Headunit for my 2018 TRD taco because I really want Android Auto mainly for the larger screen to navigate using Google maps (getting old and vision isn't getting any better) and that it can connect to my Android Device wirelessly. Not to mention, I have over 4000 songs on my home Synology NAS that I can connect remotely for my personal music library. Yeah having YouTube, Netflix, Prime video, and Plex which I have over 1000 movies that I can pull from my NAS remotely is a nice touch to this head unit but that's just a tip of the iceberg of what the capabilities this unit has. None of the overpriced name brand units can come close to what Android can offer based on it's price for performance. And for the Apple nerds out there, yeah Android does not discriminate, you can connect your titanium toy to it wirelessly with Apple play.s-l1200.jpg

agreed with you. I bought this kit because it was a simple plug and play. Probably took me 3 hours. Or maybe less if I didn’t do sound deadening.

Do you see any difference in sound with the JOYING? Was it a simple plug and play? No problems with the oemaudio system?
