Question from an East Coaster

What are some good trails in the Telluride/Ouray area that a person could feel safe driving on just by themselves? Often you go with a group who, if necessary, can rescue each other if necessary. But I'd like to know of some trails that aren't too challenging and that you could safely navigate alone.

Did black bear and Imogene alone with 0 rear lift
Glad I did them
Want to take friends there so they can shit their pants but also enjoy the views
Wish I would’ve stayed longer In the area and done more of the many trails they have there

Thanks. I did Imogene once with a group of people and I got hung up once and had to get pulled out. I would rather that not happen again.

I also want to avoid things like, you know, falling off cliffs and never being seen again.

 

What do you recommend? 80 mph? 90 mph?

 

Come into Telluride via Last Dollar Road up by ridgeway. Head back out over Ophir Pass. Next run the Alpine Loop to hit engineer and cinnamon, and make sure you spend some time in Animas Forks.

 

Ophir Pass, Bolam Pass, Scotch Creek and Last Dollar Road are all scenic choices in the Telluride/Ophir area.

I’m sure you learned from getting stuck
As did I putting dents underneath, destroying step bars, denting my door opening it on the verge of flipping over

mild stuff
It only gets spicy when you actually do flip over

 

Actually, I nearly did. I was hugging the inside of a curve to avoid going over the edge, and over compensated a little too much.
