Its got A4 along with a few smaller serial like numbers. As far as i know its just a common rear axle the tacoma uses on that trim.

Hopefully it all works out for you. Myself would be very uneasy about buying a new truck that has the same guts as the last one I had issues with though. Is the new one AT as well?

Update. New truck seems to have the bucking and slight vibration from 45-60mph similar to older truck. Does anyone know if driving habits can induce this behavior in the truck??? All roads around me are a 55mph speed limit so right at the spot where this thing misbehaves.

Put it in S6. Does it still happen? Does it happen at S5?

Maybe it's a characteristic of the truck if you've had two that do the same thing? Mine was a little off putting with the "slow down vibes" many people worried about...now I just don't think about it and chalk it up to just being a truck. Pretty sure I get the diff whine every so often but only in specific circumstances.

I'm not going to worry about it.

I have a 2022. And on low speeds 20-35 I get this shuttering thing. How do I fix it? My truck has less than 100 miles.. I’ve never had this issue before with a Tacoma

ecu is still learning. give it 1000 miles and use the same grade gas the whole time or the process takes longer.

Same issue. Mentioned to dealer EVERY time I took it in for service. Platitudes. Drive along with Woody, he acknowledged it, but no fix. I test drove a oven fresh ‘21 trd, same issue. Finally contacted Toyota corp. They assigned me an advocate and the back and forth begins. Toyota has been great with communication. The dealership, not so much. It’s too bad because this is where the best Toyota technician in the greater Indy area resides. They kept it for 2 weeks and put take off tires on it siting “it feels like a tire issue” :smack: My loaner vehicle, a ‘22 trd off road, had same issue. When my wife drove it to work she said she noticed the same behavior in the ‘22.

I've commented on this before. I call it the "yoyo' effect. I got one of those OBD adapters with OBD fusion software for my phone and I downloaded a members dashbord that had TC lockup light on it. Every time it did the yoyo thing the torque converter was going in and out of lockup.

So if this issue is in fact the TC going in and out of lockup then.... A) is there a fix? and B) is it actually doing any damage or is this in fact a "normal characteristic"? and C) do we just ignore it and keep driving?

He went from a 2020 to a 2022. Both exhibit the same stutter. Mine's a 2021 and does it as well. I've researched this to death and believe it is the torque converter locking and unlocking. I'm just trying to figure out if that actually does any damage.

I'm starting to look for a 2022/2023 new, more than likely staying with the Taco, but this is kind of concerning. So far my 2.7 4x2 does not have this.

Thing is, you don't know if it's flex lockup or full lockup. The ECM controls 2 solenoids to perform both lockups. The ECM uses all kinds of inputs to control those 2 solenoids; engine speed, throttle position coolant temp, trans input speed, trans out speed, MAF, crank position, etc.

Point being, although you might correlate it to lock/unlock, doesn't mean it's necessarily the torque converter itself. It could be literally anything; mechanical, electrical, programming...

    Low hanging fruit...
Between the 3 trucks you mention; has the fluid level ever been checked?

Interesting. I just recently started investing this phenomenon lol. What is this flex lockup vs full lock up and I guess my question still remains is it an actual issue meaning cause damage or is it just an annoyance?
And no I have never checked my trans fluid if that’s what you mean. I’ve done all my own oil changes every 5k. Just did my 25k one so I believe the diff fluid gets changed next one at 30k.

I'm just gonna throw a wrench into all your guys' theories and say it's been happening on my MT lately too. Started a few months ago right after moving to the west coast. Same kind of yoyo feeling around 40mph, worst in 3rd gear around 2500rpm.

Flex lockup is partial of the torque converter using pulse width modulation of the SLU solenoid. It's extends the lockup range to lower gears(2-6) and speeds. It's intended to increase fuel economy and improve shift feel.
