Not sure how durable MaxxTraxx are - can you do a couple recoveries a day and have them last a few months? A recovery strap is probably cheaper on a per use basis.

They're pretty durable, they are a microfiber reinforced nylon, think power tool bodies, they'll hold up to plenty of recoveries unless you have wheel spin on them. If you spin your tires you can burn through them pretty quickly, a common mod is to take the first three rows or so of the plastic lugs grind them down drill through and replace with 1/4 20 bolts to give more grip that won't be burned off.

Recovery boards are great for the weekend warrior because they save weight and are good enough but if you're doing it professionally, aluminum tread step would probably be better but at that point a kinetic rope or winch would be best.

The other benefit of MaxTrax is you can stack them and use them as a ramp or bridge along with winching or snatching.

Give him long enough hanging out with Rory and Trail Mater and he'll probably have them. Even Trail Mater has some steel/aluminum traction boards. It would certainly beat stacking rocks for low clearance cars like they do a lot of times.

Someone gifted him a set of traction boards. He doesn’t use them, he has a reason but I don’t remember.

Toyota 4Runner. They missed the "road closed sign".

A couple of friends new to the area went up the mountain to check out the snow, and ended up stranded for three days. The missed the road closed signs and ended up on Cascade Lakes Highway, which is a snowmobile trail in the winter time.

Oil catch can would have saved that motor. Another reminder I need to grab one.

Can this be the result of driving at extreme angles? Starving the engine of oil?

Dude you really gotta not be paying attention to miss that road closed sign. They literally gate the road shut with giant stop signs across it. Then in winter once the gate is covered in snow you have about a 10 foot snow bank to get up off the road onto the snow unless you pull into the snowpark and drive up the snowmobile trails and that's far from accidental...

The dumpster fire is over here:

Yes and on top of that it floods the engine with oil and hydrolocks. This engine like the rest of the truck isn't meant for off roading.

I guess it really depends on what people define as off-roading. But yeah, if I buy a truck which has the name off-road in it, it better be able to do off-roading.

Its all marketing, geared high, weak suspension, weak frame, t-case 2.28, no room for bigger tires, bad approach and departure angle, etc.... Its ok for SR and SR5 but for TRD-Off road and TRD-Pro they should have improved on those things.

    headers..bigger pipes...31's...
AAA doesn't cover off road recovery because of liability/damages...Matt performs these difficult recoveries and assumes the increased liability himself, he services and satisfies AAA customers and in turn AAA sue's him....total BS...As a 25 year AAA customer I'm pissed at AAA....feel like cancelling it.
