I was thinking the same thing. But then I thought about all the labor required to go from gas to diesel. It's not going to be cheap. Would have to find a gas junker to throw in

Go watch 4WD 24/7 and report back. Light duty diesels certainly do belong off road!

That's pretty sick. If OP can figure out how to fit a Merlin under the hood and mate it to his trans he should start his own YT channel capturing the looks he gets from drivers when pulling up to stoplights.

Go to King of the Hammers and you will find maybe a handful of offroad rigs that are diesel. And those select rigs are diesel just for the unique factor (The Race Tractor for one example)

Desert racing and off-roading are two different animals.

And I'm not just talking about the Ultra4's that are racing. The thousands and thousands of the 4x4 rigs that are there to wheel, cruise around the desert, and to rockcrawl, are most likely not a diesel, and for a reason.

You must not have heard of Sage Carli. Guys have been hucking their diesel trucks and pre running diesels for years. Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they aren't out there.

Yup, and you get that by running lower diff gears, tcase gears, or tcases with multiple low ranges. Combine that with high revving gas motors and you have the perfect combo.

You're also referring to American events. American's have a fascination with having the biggest gasoline engines possible lol. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Most other countries want smaller trucks with diesel engines. Diesels are also often more expensive so that does not help. More and more people are tuning to diesels thanks to good crate engines with good aftermarket support such as the Cummins R2.8.

Or decent gearing and a slowing churing mill that generates good torque below 3k. Low end torque without a screaming engine wins everytime. Much more enjoyable experience
