You don't get a Salvage title from simply getting a vehicle repaired. The vehicle has to be totaled, then re-sold to get a Salvage title. What you will probably get is a ding on a CARFAX report.

 

I know this; We were talking about if the truck got totaled and I bought it back.

 

What still gets me is that one of the guys asked me why I was being so hostile: You just dropped a metal pipe on my truck and you really got ask that?!?!

 

I don't think they're gonna total my truck...

 

Good grief did he think you would be jumping for joy? It's not like you were driving a Dakota that would be better off as scrap.

 

How about that 2011 RC above going for $20K? That leads me to think I could get $15K for mine if it were in mint condition, and until the incident at the scrapyard it was in mint condition!

 

Yeah car prices are nuts lately, glad l am not in the market for a vehicle!

Glad you're OK. Between you, your dad, & your mechanic & body man make sure your truck is restored to it's previous fine condition.

 

No shots were fired, just a shock-induced "Are you fucking kidding me?!?!" when I got out of the truck, and a few other various profanities directed at nobody in particular...

 

Wow my friend. Those heavy equipment attachments scare me. Even though I worked in a metal fab shop for 25 plus years with 20k lbs forklifts etc. My best friends wife was literally killed while driving her car through a construction zone a few years back. (And he worked at the same shop) The bucket swung around and lets just say that was it. Your truck can be repaired. Just looking at the photos if they do total it this is one I would consider buying back from them. Especially if it's been a good one.

 

The owner of the body shop who fixed my truck after I got hit by a drunk driver in 2015 said it's definitely not going to be totaled; However, wouldn't buying it back mean a salvage title?!?!

 

Not sure but probably. But if you plan on driving it then what does it matter is they way I was thinking. I mean I have a 2003 2500hd with 189K I just put 5k in. But I bought the truck with 23K on it in 2005. I did this because I owned the truck since 2005 and knew I would never sell it. Everyone's case is different.

 

Also, I already got the frame replaced by Toyota, so I wouldn't to worry about a claim getting denied due to a rebuilt title; I would also rather have a salvage title on a vehicle I've owned since new than buy someone else's headache at a premium!

This is insane! It makes me feel a hell of a lot better about my truck's value!

 

With prices today I doubt they total it. Seven years ago I tried to find a tailgate from any scrapyard within 100 miles. I specifically wanted a white one so I wouldn't have to pay to have it painted. After several months I gave up and decided the small dent wasn't too bad. I just live with it.

I had one guy in a scrap yard tell me that he had a Tacoma that had been rolled. Every single piece of sheet metal and glass had to be replaced, although there was no other damage. The insurance company did not total it. And that was 7 years ago.

 

ya the prices suck... i was bored and looking for a 5 speed 2wd to daily back and forth to work and slam on the ground buuuut people want money for them so nope still driving my gas hog lol
