I dont doubt that hes bottoming out, the OR suspension is too soft for any real offroading or g-outs.

I don't disagree, but I wouldn't shell out money for new parts on assumptions alone.

Howdy, thanks for the responses. I’ll check out the bump stops and Sumo’s and such. I really like the way it rides and don’t want to mess that up with HD springs but still might try some fox 2.0’s with better bump stops.

I’m not slamming into these bumps either. The RR tracks are concave with a lip next to the track. At the exact time the truck squats into the g out, it hits the lip with a solid bottoming. So if it’s at night, for a split second the headlights go into the trees

What’s (not so) amusing is the little soccer mom Rav just drives right thru with little disruption.

Do coil springs help bottoming Better than leafs?

Welcome to owning a leaf-sprung solid rear axle vehicle.

    air lift bags, canapy.
WARNING, I have the same issue going over small bumps with my 2016 TRD sport so I put on better shocks and still bottomed out. Finally I put on some air bags that are the stacked donut style.
Well last month by rear axle blew up with only 55K miles so I took it onto local Beaverton Toyota to see if it could be fixed under the drivetrain warranty or get the warranty extended through Toyota Customer care. The service manager said that I must have been hauling weight over the specified limit since I had put on air bags and he refused to recommend to Toyota to have the repairs ($5,800) covered under warranty. Apparently if we do work to fix factory imperfections it means we are exceeding the limits of the truck.

If any dealer tells you that the modifications you did has voided the warranty you can quote them this:
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 states that a dealership must prove that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage.

Shocks job is to cancel oscillations, not to prevent the bottoming out.

I’d like to see this rear axle that has blown up from a 276 hp engine. Please drop a pic or two or you can pm me.

Shocks do reduce suspension travel through dampening. That doesn't mean you can not overcome the dampening of the shock to the suspension limits.

By installing a larger body shock with a larger piston, you can increase damping to improve and absorb suspension hits. This will lessen bottoming out.

Shock absorbers absorb shocks. They can certainly decrease the chance of bottoming out. Springs and shocks work in concert to control the suspension, but shocks don’t do anything when the suspension is at rest. If you want to change your ride height, it involves springs and not shocks.
