    You are for sure overgeared.

Gear that thing properly and it'll probably feel like an F550, lol.

Having had only 4 cyl cars for the past 10+ years, I really don't find the 4 cyl taco to be all that underpowered. Maybe slightly less pick-up speed than my 2015 Rav4. Haven't played much with the extra power button but I think it helps. Also thinking about one of those pedal commander mods. Doesn't help with the HP but would take out some of the lag you get when you step on the gas.

    What "extra power" button?

Do you mean the ECT? All that does is hold shifts slightly longer, and really, it's barely noticeable.

The only "real" power adder that's worth anything is forced induction. Anything else and you're just farting in the wind. Those pedal commander things aren't relevant to the cable actuated throttles on 1st gens, anyway (this is the 1st gen sub-forum).

But I can understand how if you've never owned a motorcycle, a bicycle seems fast, lol.

lol, yeah, I used to ride a DRZ250. Not fast (comparatively) but plenty to scare you sometimes.

But it's all relative right? Compared to a bicycle, an XR200 is fast.

Yep, ignorance is bliss. I'll take everyone's word that its underpowered but not having driven the V6, I'm not missing it.

I'll still play around with that ECT button when its safe to do so. Thing is, I wouldn't leave it on all the time and I would think that when you really need it, you won't have time to press it. So, it would either be on all the time or off. I'll probably just keep it off.

If you’re ever towing an applicable load or have the bed loaded with anything/everything it will come in handy on hilly roads.

I think you're severely overestimating what that button is for or what it's capable of. It's not by any means an "in an emergency, press here" button. It's just a button that holds shifts a little longer. For me, it was not noticeable at all. Couldn't tell if it was on or off. Turning off the A/C has more of an effect.

As for being "under powered" no it's not, at least not for what it is. But the amount of power it does have makes it pretty limited, and generally speaking if you intend to do more "truck stuff" with it, and you had a choice, the v6 is going to do better - the trade-off of course being MPGs.

Road bike? Don't you have to stop and shave your legs first? :D

How long can you maintain 30mph on the flat though? In my racing days I could do near 40 in a solo sprint (not bad for a B rider) but only for a short time.

No, I'm not overestimating it. If I came across that way, I didn't mean too. I didn't need anything like it with my Rav4 and I don't expect to with the Taco. I really don't expect to use it. The couple of times I did use it, I found very little difference. I just figure that when it's safe to do so, I'll play with it sometimes. By safe, I mean, not in while traveling the Atlanta interstates, trying to cross 5 lanes of traffic during rush hour thinking I can use it to squeeze in between those 2 tractor-trailers while doing 85. I just want to see what it will do. I'm one of those, if there is a button, it must be pressed kind of guys.

I talk on enough power for what it is, a little 4x4 pick up .

My Mustang have 525 hp on 2.3 liter 4 cylinder and it’s never enough. But it’s a mustang.

I like the : claim to carry

I don’t know if your are manual, but if I want to maintain 70 mph on a hill with the trailer I can keep it in 3 (about 4500 rpm) and it will do it. 4500 rpm is nothing to maintain for a 4 cylinder during the time of a long hill an those 53ft won’t pass you. Anyway, for what it is I find it way more strong than I have tough after reading. Do you ever have try one ??? The difference between my Tacoma 2.7 vs my son 3.4 are not huge.

I love my 2.7, granted it’s a reg cab, but I find it has plenty of power off the line and does just fine on the highways maintaining speeds.

Now, it is an absolute dog on long steep mountain inclines.

you really have to get a running start or you are going to find yourself either flooring it or stuck behind at 45mph.

I’ve driven my beauty for long enough to know just what she likes and doesn’t like. A little planning and understanding how to hit the hills and when to giddy up goes a long way.

whos complaining.... its a small truck with a 4 banger! the 2.7 3RZ is a damn good reliable engine and mine still gets 18-21 mpg. i got mine for 1 reason only, GAS MILEAGE!
when i had my construction co we had 3/4 ton 4X4 work trucks that got 12mpg... bought the taco for a "gopher" truck. after i retired i keep my 1/2 ton chevy and the taco.
my bro in law has a $68k 2020 ram with a hemi in it (12-15mpg), cost $100 to fill the tank... fuck that! same reason my chevy stays parked unless i need to tow or haul something. gas is forecasted to hit ~$4 gal. national average ($3.15 in Ga now) this year.
give me my old 4 banger taco to putt my ole ass around in!

I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
2.7 is underpowered, but 276k miles. I'll take it. Plus my regular cab fits in my garage with plenty of room to spare. I could never deal with a huge truck. I wish I got good gas mileage 15 mpg
