heavy truck work will tear you up by 40 years old. theres a reason its pay is way higher than most professions with similar skills required.

Have to make a decision on this federal job tomorrow. HR said they need to contact my direct supervisor and I haven’t even received a firm offer yet. But a federal tentative is pretty solid so I guess I’ll send it.

Also I have thoughts and opinions on your transfer case @Area51Runner but I’ll have to type them up later.

Thanks Andrew. Appreciate the feedback but it can wait for sure. Good luck on the job - fed is certainly the way to go.

    I have mods
You need to match that hole on the transmission to see if it's threaded there. All the bolts will thread into the trans tail housing. If it is, I don't know how well I would trust that hole. You don't want to skip any bolts going into the trans to hold that tcase in place.

If there is a dowel pin in that location on the trans, then you might be all right. Just need to use a drift of some kind to try and get that hole round again and file the mating surface smooth.

Oof, that looks important.. no threads, maybe a dowel hole?

If it were mine, and was a pain in the ass to get .. and no way to complain to those who sent it... I'd heat it up gingerly (might be a magnesium alloy, dont wanna melt it) with an oxy/acetylene torch and then massage an appropriate sized punch through that hole, from the front face to the back. Then, on the mating surface, sand any possible deformity left over and permatex the shit outta it

Wont be able to really confirm until I have a trans on hand to mate it up and see. Going to reach out to the seller and see what their response is, wasn't any mention of it in the listing. On the other hand, don't believe there was a mention of insured shipping either.

It really comes down to rolling the dice on these salvage parts I guess, especially the ones ordered online. :facepalm:Lesson learned and hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a costly one.

    EDIT:

Just looked at the original listing photos and its barely noticable in the image (right side).

So it's not a dowel hole. I've linked an image from @turbodb tcase swap writeup that show the alignment pins/dowels and the bolt holes. It's just one of the 4 bolts that slide in from the rear of the tcase and thread into the transmission adapter. The bottom four insert from the front of the case and thread into the tcase.

I'd definitely make sure the rear flange that has the backed out stud didn't take any major damage from a hard hit. As for the noise from the front output. It could be a bent dust shield that press fits onto the output flange. They can sometimes contact the body of the transfer case if they take a hit. Sounds pretty normal but it's hard to tell from a video.

Oh and the breather tube is 100% bent on the shifter plate. Those stick straight out.

Not gonna lie, I'd tap out at $1k.

Steph has a $3k budget for a fridge; glad none of my money is paying into that
