Looking to purchase a regular cab 4x4 manual 2nd gen Tacoma. Not looking for a truck that’s been beat, but also not looking for a mint truck either. Just looking for a nice reliable truck. Been looking for a few months and keep coming up empty handed. Been a Toyota owner for about fifteen years. That’s all I drive are these long life machines. Thanks !

Welcome to Tacoma World. If I see one available, I'll let you know. One question:

What brand of oil you plan on running?

    ..patiences is key..
+ cash to transact quickly can be handy..

    i wanted a manual transmission
    4wd + locker [OR trim]
    access cab config
    V6

it took me 8 months and i had to drive a little over 3hr /one way/ from my house; i went and looked at a couple but as soon as i took them for pre/purchase inspection + got em on a lift = rust = NOPE

during this time, i learned that 3rd gens are not possible in this config in USA

one good trick - use the Toyota VIN decoder - to see how the truck is really config vs. sales listing; you use to be able to access this without logging in - looks like they are being a pain about it now -

sometimes MT are mis/labeled and you can capitalize on that

i put Autotrader app on my phone and set my search rather broadly, then I checked it neurotically and ran the VIN for any vehicle that looked remotely possible - the one i wound up buying was mis/marketed as a Sport vs OR - the dealer didn't catch it till I pointed it out [and had them send me a photo of the e/locker box to verify it had the locker]; they then said if I didn't buy it, they were gonna add 2K to the price..

    good luck!

I knew what I wanted a white 1st gen, manual hubs and auto trans was very important to me, I dont care to shift gears. Saw it on craigslist ona saturday morning posted 20minutes ago, called the guy up and the truck was in my driveway in a couple hours.
