Yeah that’s cool but he needs to release a tuned file for the 2.7 already because no one apparently knows how to tune the 2.7 or it’s hard to find someone near you. It’s like giving the cars keys to a 12 year old boy. He has the car but he don’t know to drive it.

Cracking the ECU is a huge first step. I would bet that there will be TunePacks in short order, if not immediately.

Looking at the 2017 AT Stock Tune, there are not a lot of maps, comparatively. I wish the 3.5l looked like this:

The tune has been cracked for a good while now for the 16 and 17 auto 2.7 ECUs and there has been almost no options to buy a finished tune from someone. The 2.7 is basically ignored. So although it’s cool that VF has cracked all 2.7 model years, it doesn’t matter because there are no ready tuned files going to be available. Almost everyone that wants the tune doesn’t know how to tune.

I need to apologize here. Sorry!

You are right. There were no TPs. They are happening though.

I don't care too much about a performance tune but I would love a true manual mode where I could lock it in a gear on the highway and run cruise control without it downshifting all the time. If it slows down a little going up a hill while giving it full throttle in 5th, that's fine.

So why is there an ability to tune a 2016+ 2.7 but not a 2009?

Hit the nail on the head trucks great around town but on the highway with cruise it’s not useable. If I’m on the gas it might downshift to 5th and hold no problem with a slight grade. If cruise is on that sucker is going to drop to 4th and scream all the way up the small grade and still hold that even for a few seconds after the grade smooths out. On flat ground is fine but I mostly have cruise off. Just looking for a little better drivability

I wonder if 4.88 gears help with cruise control, I think cruise control is kind of like ECT on.

You might know this, but just in case, the 2.7l diff gearing is oppose of the 3.5l. The ATs have 4.30s and the MTs have 3.909s. So, 4.88s are only a small change over your stock gearing. Check a place like this with the ratio link below to compare and see where the revs and such will settle out:

It's a 13.5% change, vs 25% change going from 3.9 to 4.88. 13.5% still can be decent, no?

That all depends on you, which is why I posted the link. I know someone that went from 3.909s to 4.56s and is happy with the difference.

For the cost of a swap, I would check the link, see what the results are supposed to be, and try to see how that might work out on your Taco. Hold it back a gear with S-mode or throttle to see if it would be annoying or just right. For nearly $4k, I would want to test my hunches.

My stock gearing is like a 3.5l AT with 5.29s on stock tires. If I owned one, I know that I would be going for the 5.29s for me.

I would go 5.29 in a heart beat, but just yesterday drove at 85mph 10 over speed lim, don’t want to have 5.29 limit speed at 80mph.

With 600lb constant weight, uphill, it pulls in 4th until 55mph, then 3rd at 4k+ rpm anything above 55.

I think 4.88 will put me at slightly above stock ratio, stock comes with 245 wheels, I’m 265 right now. So yea unless you put lockers in, don’t think regear is cost effective in 2.7L AT.

Not knowledgable enough to use grim jeeper and to extrapolate if regear will help my truck to stay in lower gear without downshifting.
