100hz is fine, I'd rather keep frame rates at about 100 and run higher graphical settings then have to sacrifice quality for fps. But, to each's own. I love my monitor, and the price point. Granted when I bought the monitor it only cost $350.

    Well...

3 months later, almost 4. Lets call it 4. Western Digital finally sent me an HDD. I sent them a 10TB Black 3.5". The whole process was a mess and a PITA. Just to communicate with them was a week turn around and could only be done by creating an account with WD. Anyways, they offered an "upgrade". It's the same damn drive. Literally the same. When I asked them about an upgrade and what they could possibly upgrade from a 10TB Black besides an NVME that they have nowhere close to the same amount of storage in, they never responded. Today the drive randomly arrived. Good thing I spent over a grand on an 8TB NVME.... I got so tired of HDD's failing. So now I have the 10TB as a "backup" drive that I don't trust, and a 4TB blue drive in the spare rooms PC. The blue drive has always ran quieter and better. TBH, I don't even notice the performance jump from blue to black. It's so negligible on HDD's. That said, the transfer from one NVME to another, specifically one that used PCIE 4.0, is GB's per second. I can transfer a TB in a minute (I haven't tried that yet though, my biggest files are usually around a couple hundred GB's). Anyways... So I got the drive back.

    Then I did some things:

    20220201_193407.jpg

    20220201_193413.jpg

I used to have the front of the case open, without the shroud inserts there. The cables never really stayed where they should and were really misaligned. So I cut em up with a dremel and put them back in. I like it. I like the open air setup and might end up swapping to a Lian Li Air Mini, but I'd rather wait to see what Fractal does in the coming year. Hopefully it's a smaller version of their Torrent. Previously I had this:

    004.jpg

While I liked the setup, I always had plans to get red cables. Something about the color scheme that just seemed like it needed some hot rod inserts to set it apart. Not everyone's style, and unfortunately, my camera on my s21 ultra always makes them look saturated. So it's hard to show how they really look in the case when everything is running. A little bit of red accents on the motherboard LED's and that's it. I unhooked the RBG cable on the GPU because after getting rid of the EVGA card and "upgrading" to the ASUS, the bloatware that ASUS requires you to download just to shut off RGB should have a class action lawsuit filed it's such a crime. Seriously. But here is the finished result... only took me like 5 months to actually do it, lol.

    20220201_201447.jpg

The downside is now I hear that HDD. I'm thinking of selling it. Anyone interested? PM me an offer if you are. It is currently $320 brand new (on Amazon). And yes, this one works, lol. I already tested everything.

Anyways, that was my day. Working on the truck then working on the PC. Now to relax while I chew on this edible :rasta:

I wonder if WD's customer service has gone downhill. I RMA'd a 1TB My Book (back when 1TB was a lot). WD was quick and sent back a 2TB My Book in it's place, without me asking for any upgrades. I just bought a 1TB NVMe drive from them (it's basically a SanDisk SSD). So far so good. My server has 2x 5TB HDDs at the moment. Waiting for SSD prices to come down a bit more to replace those HDDs.

I googled it and found similar posts on reddit. Left mine there for feedback. Apparently it's common. Some people even reported having to ship their drives overseas and dealing with whatever team over there handles it.

    Yeah.
WD has been really good about spamming me with emails about the MyCloud NAS I have that has vulnerabilities that they won't be fixing.

Hell when I RMA'd a 320gb IDE drive, back when that was a lot they had one of the best RMA systems I'd ever used up to that point.

    Yeah.
The MyCloud is just a hard drive in an enclosure that you plug in to your network and access with a web interface. That said, for important stuff, I like to have multiple copies: one local, one on my Unraid server, and one in the cloud. Hardware failures are one thing, but losing everything in a fire would suck.

I heard about the My Clouds being hacked. I could do the same thing with my router if I attach storage to it. The worst someone can do is mess up my router, but they have no access to my data. I have 3 physical copies of my data. I do need to find off-site storage for 1 of the copies though.

    Yeah.
Yeah, mine was behind the firewall, no reason to expose it to the world since it was just used as a backup device. I always thought it was a bit janky. I have an Unraid server now that can recover from a disk failure, plus it can run Docker containers and VMs to do various things. I was running pi-hole on it, but switched to AT&T Fiber and have to use their router that doesn't let me set the DNS servers (not real happy about that). I might try a media server that can stream FLAC files.

My server is just a minimal Linux install with ZFS on an older 12" Thinkpad. Small footprint, low power consumption, and built-in UPS. I usually connect to it via ssh/sftp/sshfs.

Those sites seems shady as hell. Hopefully you get the right drives. But a lot of times, sites like those sell knock offs.

What? I bought it through GameStop.
It doesn't matter now as the deal expired. It may have been a flash sale, but my guess is pricing mistake.

Slickdeals is basically a forum no different than TW.

Sorted my memory issues! Basically I swapped the new sticks out with the ones I had and they worked right away. Messed with bios and turned off all the over clock settings again and basically got it to work!

officially on 64 gb and I got it up to 3000MHz too!

I have 200 MHz left to squeeze out but I think I’ll have to start with a voltages.

In other news, anyone win the Newegg shuffle and doesn't want to buy a 3080 ti? I'm in the market already after just finishing this build :anonymous:

So Thursday the 10th was the first time I ever entered the Newegg shuffle, and somehow I won!

Stoked to score this 3080 Gaming OC 12gb!

    https://www.newegg.com/GIGABYTE-GeF...C-12GD/p/N82E16814932489?Item=N82E16814932489

So I ordered the rest of the parts needed to optimize it into my loop:

Card comes today, so hopefully by the end of the month I'll have V2.1 of my build completed!

    Yeah.
Sweet! I spent the weekend swapping out parts and cases to do a slight upgrade on my daughter's PC. The bundle I got in the shuffle came with an ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus board, which is newer and better than the B450 she was running in a mini-ITX form factor and tiny case. I have a Corsair 4000D Airflow case that was just running an Unraid server on a mini-ITX board, so figured we could just trade things out. We picked up a Gen 4 NVMe and 32GB of matching memory and swapped her parts over. She already had a 5600X and a 1080 but only a SATA SSD, so it turned out to be a good upgrade for her for relatively cheap. I'm still entering the shuffle to try to snag another 3060 or 3070 to upgrade her graphics (my other daughter got the 3070 Ti from the bundle). Reinstalling Windows was a bitch (we had a really old build on a USB drive), but she figured it out.

Well the 3080 12gb arrived yesterday!

    Thing is a beast

Couldn’t wait the 2 weeks for the water block to arrive so a bypass it is.

I LOVE this upgrade. 17 fps to 200 plus on ultra everything.

can’t wait for the water block to arrive as well as all the other parts.

While gaming it gets to 68c with the side panel off and I'm hoping to get it to under 50 while gaming with 2 360mm rads.

If not, thick af rads it is!

Build looks great! You should be able to lower your temps by increasing your pump speed if you can.

By the way, if anyone here is interested I have an asus tuf 3080 ti. I bought it for a friend who was doing a build (we both entered newegg shuffle and I won) but he ended up going a different route. Still new in the box just collecting dust. I’ll sell it for what I paid for it ($2,000). I feel kind of guilty having it collect dust in my closet..
