The hardware is seriously good stuff. Toyota just hid it behind some really bad wallpaper. Kinda kills that whole 4.0l versus 3.5l arguement, esp with what a bit of tuning does for the different but equitable issues that they have.

I was thinking about the blogs that were on his website before the Forum got stood up. That "decision tree" for autotragic shifting.. I just don't know how Mat still has any sanity left lolol.

Oh gawd, shhhhhhhhh! He'll make an appearance in this thread for fuck sakes lolol

But, I did spar with cumbubble elsewhere. I wasn't sure if it was him, but oh boy. Was it ever.

You have to add at least one zip tie?

But, yeah. The Orange Virus is the cure for the common cold. EROM 1.2 might cure COVID? :D

They are all different or there are at least a lot of variants and variables or something. Just look through MPG forums.

I just got kdmax a few weeks ago. I was skeptical initially, it’s a significant improvement. It’s not going to turn a v6 into a V8, but it improves drivability a lot. No more lag, rapid fire shifting, etc. I’m confident anyone who tried it would not want to go back to stock. It’s not placebo, drive a tuned truck once and experience not rapid shifting to 6th gear by the time you hit 30 mph lol.

And some stock, untuned trucks drive better than others. Honestly mine is not bad at all. Either that or I have a low bar lol

Same here. My 2021 drives great. Adding a tune seems like fixing something that isn’t broken. Toyota certainly knows how to build vehicles that perform well even in the face of emission requirements. But I have a sum total of one data point.

Granted this 3.5 isn't a torque monster v8, but imo, it works pretty dam good. My truck has enough smooth low end torque to get every job i need done with it. I can see your complaint if you have a tacoma v6 as my buddy had. It had the same tune as mine and as far as i know same everything similar drivetrain yet the truck was a pooch. There's gotta be a ton of happy tacoma owners like myself that are more than satisfied with these engines. Seems you only notice the ones here complaining.

For an automatic skip the tune, just get 5.29s and call it a day

Last warmup my dirt road where i live turned into a deep rutted mud pit. I used 4lo on one deep muddy rutted hill and just cruised up it. Today gotta go out, and make a trip to wally world, and hit those frozen ruts while getting to the main road, hoping i don't drag on anything.

I have to agree... I can make a turn and mash the gas and lose some grip sometimes.. It feels fine to me. The only thing I've noticed is that sometimes the truck wont want to shift into 6th on the interstate around 70-75mph.

So ever since it did that a couple times, I've put my trans into S6 instead of D and never had the issue again.

My other biggest complaint is the cost.. A guy quoted me $450 to OVTune and he lives 8 minutes away and i would take it to his own driveway. Seems pretty high to me.

Add in literally amount of weight, whether that be more passengers, more mods, heavy armor, heavier tires to rotate, more aggressive tires, anything that alters aero like a roof rack, or any mod in general, and the truck is gonna lose 6th altogether lol. Its just the factory tune; its generally great for a completely stock truck, as intended, so it just works like you mentioned. The second you do any simple mods, you'll likely long for a quick fix at the premium price of a new tune!
