I’m changing my oil after going 5000 miles since my last oil change. When I went to remove my oil filter my oil filter veins are all twisted up. Did I somehow install my oil filter incorrectly the last time I changed my oil? Or could it be some other problem? Or is this normal?BEFD2642-D269-4537-B49C-C8420466A78E.jpg66874486-BF18-415C-9E6F-650E2A6D7DD3.jpgA32245CC-AE28-4D11-9BDF-0AE429340A5B.jpg

Could I have installed the wrong size oil filter? I’m pretty sure I installed a Toyota 3F43F4AA-37B1-42F6-BD5B-870304603398.jpg oil filter.

That is what I am wondering. I wonder if I put on a Gen two oil filter or an oil filter for a different model of Toyota.

Gen 2 is an old school disposable can type.

Just watched a vid on Gen 3... looking for length of filter upon removal. Can't tell if OP's filter is too tall or not. But...

Could just be a cheaper filter used. Where did you get it changed at last? and from threading it off made the filter fold that way.

If that is the pic of how it came off the engine you used the wrong filter. Toyota makes many different filters and they are of many different lengths. The box should say 04152YZZA1 on it to be for a Tacoma if it is a Toyota OEM filter

That filter looks like it was damaged during fastening the cap, not loosening it per the kink direction.

You’re fortunate the canister was tight enough to seal - that filter must’ve had some abnormalities in dimensions and got sammiched in the canister.

My 2013 4Runner had a longer filter, same diameter just longer. I think that is the filter shown in the picture. Also, I think the metal tube in the canister should be close to flush with the length of the correct filter.

it would be nice if Toyota did what Ford once did. Simply use the same filter on everything.

I’m sorry I got pulled away from here to do some stuff with the kids. The twisted up filter turns out to be about a quarter of an inch longer than the new filter I just now put on there. I also have a 2019 Toyota 4runner and I had bought some filters for the 4runner. It is entirely possible that I got the 4runner filter and the Tacoma filter mixed up. Anyway guys, learn from my mistake.55A46191-8E7F-4DC1-81FD-B8587FA494E6.jpg

I think you are exactly right. I have a 2019 4runner and I had bought some filters for it.
