Bring some basic recovery gear; shackles, tow strap. Air pressure gauge for filling the tires back up after the trail ride. We used some basic hand held walky-talkies last time, it helped a bunch as the group got spread out a few times. Bring something to lay on the ground with, incase you need to get under the truck for any reason. A small cooler with water, snacks. Some basic hand tools.

Don't have shackles or tow strap (recommended or required?). Do have traction boards. Might be able to borrow a compressor. Have deflation kit for airing down (havent tried it yet). Got a walkie. :D Will gather some tools but not sure whats useful since I don't know how to work on my truck yet. Definitely have things I could throw on the ground to climb under. Food and water .

You can get both a shackle and a tow strap from Tractor supply ,most parks require this but they don’t check.More then likely someone will have them if needed.

Most likely with a large enough crowd, someone will have those things. I think I only had traction boards but luckily didn’t need anything. A compressor is a good thing to have but they do have one on site. I have an Amazon special one lol. Umm, a board for the jack to sit on might help too.

I'd say 'recommended' on the strap and shackle. I use a receiver insert ( without the towing ball attached ) as an anchor point for the shackle pin to go through. As others have mentioned, within the group there will usually be enough tools/knowledge to go around to figure out a solution to a problem. I'd add a decent set ratchet/cargo straps to the list, they're just useful things to have. Tools- vise grips, zip ties, good quality duct tape (gorilla tape), pliers, small hammer, screw driver with multiple tips. Just enough to "fix" something to get off of the trail incase something breaks. Maybe a small hydraulic bottle jack.

I enjoyed the trip that I made with the group last year, I took my 4runner as a 'shake down' trip before driving to Colorado for 2 weeks.

    Random question…
The wife and kids seem to be having a little more difficulty getting in and out of truck with the new lift than expected. Debating a set of steps now to help them out and not use my sills as steps to scratch all up! Would love a set of sliders but that’s not going to benefit them much… so maybe OEM Predator tubes, or N-Fab?? Anyone know of some for sale anywhere??

    -Thanks in advance!

The rack is what I can only assume is a home build, and I don't remember the brand on the tonneau but I'll get it tomorrow after a trip to my storage unit. Best pic I have at the moment

Im cheap and originally bought my oem style steps off eBay for about 130… they weren’t bad. I ended up, upgrading from them to sliders, after one of the steps bent.
If you want OEM, there is a sale for 20%off that ends tonight, you’ll just need to find the part number- https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/20-off-and-free-shipping-on-trd-parts.755247/

Appreciate this, and awesome sale… but the OEM Predator steps are actually cheaper on Amazon than on this site with the discounts and free shipping. But definitely worth a shot… guess I’ll keep looking for now

I got some sliders since you saw my truck. The rear kick out is GREAT for the kids getting in and out of the back doors.

I find them more annoying than helpful from the driver's seat, but I think in shotgun it might work for the wife. Specifically, because there's a handle on that side.

You could check them out in person, if you desire. There's a couple companies that make them in this style. I splurged and got aluminum, because they won't rust and they're much lighter. A serious offroader would certainly go for steel.
