The only problem with that is that your insurance is usually voided once you leave a regularly travelled road or track. In Michigan you automatically have no insurance if you willingly drive onto a frozen body of water. People go through the ice every year and have to pay out-of-pocket for the recovery and all the EPA and DEQ fines. I stopped doing that many years ago. lol

That gets really pricey when the Coast Guard gets involved. Lake St. Claire is notorious for segments breaking off, sometimes with vehicles on them, and the Coast Guard conducting rescue missions.

MN allows you to be covered if your truck falls through since ice fishing is such a big thing here.

I'd be more likely to try it again if I were a couple hundred miles further north (northern MN, WI, or MI) but not down near Detroit anymore. In the olden days we used to pull right out and park next to our fishing spot. Sometimes we would sit on the tailgate and jig through the ice. I've seen how much trouble people get into in Michigan now when you put a vehicle filled with hazardous fluids into a body of water. The DEQ, DNR and EPA can all hit you with separate big fines for polluting the water (even without signs of any leakage). We watched the recovery of an F150 that went through in 5' of water. The tow company had to send a massive wrecker and the guy had to go out in waders to hook it up. Cost the owner over $1K before he got fined. The sheriff and the DNR were both standing there on shore watching and waiting with their citation books in hand...lol

Ill be out on the ice in my truck at the end of the month, but I will be up in Duluth with my buddy. He is from Scotland, so ice fishing is pretty new to him.

When the ice gets thinner than Im comfortable driving on I will bring my mini bike to tow my sled. Its got 8 inch wide balloon tires so it does really well on the harder snow of a lake.

What wheels are those? And what's the offset? That's about what I'm looking for with mine.

Just go the whole way. I’ve been through various sizes. Even thought I’d go back to 33s this set. I returned them two days later because I just couldn’t handle the difference after seeing 35s on my truck for years.

My whole life I never went bigger than 33s. Where I live in Washington state 33's go pretty much where ever 35s go, you just have to pick better lines than the 35 guys . I like challenges and I like to impress the 35 crowd. I don't do mud really anymore , in my 92 and 95 pickup days these did plenty of mudding .
