    It looked like an accident.
However, it could have been prevented.

No reason anyone should have been around a pile that high.
Could you imagine if it were someone walking?

Definitely things to be learned there.

Well, the scrapyard is paying for it and took responsibility without questioning it, and I'm never going to a scrapyard in my truck again. That's the lesson I'm taking from this!

And if my employer sends me on scrap runs, I will be taking one of our three company minivans or the diesel Ram, because if a pipe falls on a leased company vehicle while I'm working, then it isn't my problem.

Glad you're okay. If they repaint it, I'm guessing you'll go with Silver again?

I submitted the dashcam footage to my insurance company, along with the pictures. I have a $1,000 deductible, which I am going to see about lowering before I renew the policy, but that is besides the point; I only contacted my insurance company for extra, well, insurance...

My insurance company has contacted the manager of the scrapyard as well, and my plan is to just keep blowing up his cell phone until I get a response.

I believe the yard will be responsible for the deductible since they are at fault?

I could very easily be wrong about that.

Yeah, my insurance company will go after them if they try any monkey business; And another funny thing...?

Today, a coworker gave me some stuff to scrap that she thinks is worth "about $50"; I have absolutely no interested in scrapping stuff for pocket change anymore, especially at this place for obvious reasons. As stated earlier, any scrap runs for my employer will be done in company vehicles. The stuff given to me by my coworker is just metal, not any particularly valuable metal, and I'm pretty sure worth nowhere near fifty bucks; I'm just going to leave it by the dumpster at the place where I work because I don't want to risk any more damage to my truck!

I don’t know Charlie that’s a tuff one. The most important thing is that you didn’t get hurt. Stuff is stuff and can be replaced but I know how upset I would be. You did drive right behind an active excavator without even slowing down but they should have had someone out there to stop traffic while the machine was running. Unless you drove around a barricade or something you being responsible or not is just a matter of opinion. A company can’t rely on peoples common sense as a way to maintain a safe environment so I would be pretty surprised if they tried to deny your claim.

Exactly. You can't mix the general public and industrial equipment and realistically expect them to maintain their own safety.

Every time I’ve “scrapped” stuff that other people have given me.
It has NEVER been worth my time and trouble. I no longer ask, or offer to haul scrap.
I’d rather pay someone else to haul it off. That way, I know they were at least compensated for their time.

I haven’t made enough to pay for 1 tire. And the yards I went to were full of stuff that punctures tires.
I’ve been 3x, I hope to never go again. If I do, it will only be if I can get enough to pay for 4 new tires. Which will probably never happen.

I once got like $426 for a bunch of computers, e-scrap, and wires; Unfortunately, this was for work so I didn't get to keep it...

Once I get the Tacoma fixed, I'm never scrapping for personal gain again!

I am kinda tempted to bring the mangled door back and scrap it just to be symbolic, though...

Getting a whole new paint job out of it may be a pipe dream so you need to scrap that idea. Just hope the outcome won't make a dent in your wallet.:anonymous:
