wheeling isnt easy on these trucks either they really were not meant to do what we do with them..... to say i jumped the truck alot isnt true because it was rare and it was never very high or far i never pushed it with that. but when it came to offroad i bounced the front end off things to get up larger obstacles a lot since i had smaller tires usually then those i was following... so if i had to guess where my issues come from its from doing that stuff for a few years and neglecting to fix things over time and letting it get worse

 

What have you replaced so far in the front end?

 

ummm alright thats a list

both hubs
spindles
upper controls arms (have been on awhile now and need a new uniball installed soon) (could use new bushings maybe also)
cam bolts
cam bolts again
all new bushings in the lower control arms
cv shaft on one side (the threads got damaged somehow???)
cv boots on the other side
both outer tie rods
one inner tie rod
marlin crawler frame brace installed ( terrible design btw didnt line up in the rear at all!!!)
two brake lines on one side and one on the other
2 different abs wires
1 sensor (still dont have abs )
both hub seal things that go into the spindle where the cv goes in at (one was completely gone when i tore the truck down)
front coilovers
limit strap stuffs for the ext travel coilovers

edit: forgot about the intermediate shaft but that was done a few months before


uhhhh i think thats it? i could be missing things...... there was a lot of stuff i had to do on the truck all in a short time frame


things left alone
lower ball joints (they were still good during the rebuild so i left them alone
steering rack oem lower control arms

hey i said it was a list!!!

i did a lot of dumb but yet fun things back then and i got to a lot of neat places and see how capable my truck really was but it didnt come without a price and now im paying for it and stuck in this never ending chase of issues..... my passenger rear lca mount is bent and shifted backwards a bit which sucks so that will never be exactly right...


shitty thing about all of this is i never got pics or videos of the dumb shit i did!!! nobody ever wanted to take pics of the only tacoma out there it seems

 

Hmmmm. If you're having trouble steering it sounds like your steering rack is starting to go imo. Pretty much replaced everything else from what I've seen

 

id like to also say i drove it with all this shit broken for a very long time and never realized how sketchy it was until i fixed the truck and realized woooow i was driving something on the verge of killing me...

 

yup i really dont want to deal with it thou....but the odd thing is the last time i had one of those go out it leaked so i knew it was going bad but this one doesnt leak!!! i have no loss of fluids or anything so i dont get it unless the pump is failing maybe?

 

A rack can start shitting on you without leaking

 

ya i guess its just annoying after spending a lot of time and money and i still have issues..... just gets old i guess

Ope lol. If you decide to tackle it don't get a parts store one. I've heard nothing but bad things. Sounds like you either the rack is going or the pump is if that's all that hasn't been replaced yet

 

No worries. I know this is a ways out. I just wanted to give everyone that wanted to go time to plan for it. I will figure out the route this weekend.
