Just want to get another set of eyes on this frame before I drive 20 hours round trip to go pick it up. I found a low mile (88k) Tacoma 2.7 4x4 that’s reasonably priced and it’s spent most of its life in West Virginia. I don’t know what the weather in WV is, but I’d expect they get less snow they the northern states.

does this frame looks like it’s ever been painted to y’all?

Doesn't look molested - if you get pictures of the leaf spring hangers it will be good. Obviously best to be there in person and hammer it in the usual spots above the hangers. Amount of rust on tie rod ends vs. frame and other chassis parts looks like the paint has done its job so far. Never assume over pictures, that said.

Depends where in West Virginia some reasons get lots of Snow.

It looks pretty good you just need to keep after the frame!!

Do you need to pass Emissions ?? Looks like that Cat is gone meaning the Check engine light is always on.

If I was closer I would take a look in person. WVA the nearest is 4 hours away.

I would take a hammer to that frame at all the usual rust through areas, it doesn't look molested but there is likely far more rust inside the frame then you might think. The front skid plate has rusted out [likely due to standing water inside it a lot] so more inspection of the frame rails and front cradle is required.

Almost looks like a frame replacement.

I agree. The second picture posted it looks like they pealed off the shipping label they used on the replacement frames. Either way it looks to be super clean from pictures.

You can see black overspray on the seam sealer under the cab. Frame was painted, but that in itself shouldn’t be a deterrent.

Thanks you for the input everyone.

I thought it looked like overspray in some areas, too. I’ll pull the carfax and see if the frame was replaced. The truck is actually now located in northern Alabama so it’s a bit of a hike to get there.

I didn’t catch the front skid plate being rusted out. I know the CVs are toast considering it’s got a budget 4 inch lift that I would immediately tear off.

Looking at the rust on the edge of the frame I'm curious what the inside portion looks like. This is the area that tends to delaminate once it starts to rust. The only way to really tell the condition of the frame is to get under it and look inside the frame channels.

    Just my two cents.1BF68D89-7533-4A7B-845B-A50EDA4E8363~2.jpg

    it is.

carfax won’t list it. You will need to look it Up on Toyotas site and call the servicing dealership for confirmation. The sticker is a dead giveaway, right where its supposed to be and another one on frame in front of the passenger wheel. Ask for a photo of that. FF that thing and it will be good to go a long time. 2.7 5 spd in access cab is still a ripper

Also, that cab mount in the 2nd pic looks a bit different from the original. I'm in the "it's been replaced" camp.
Looks to be in good shape, but always gotta check before you hand over the cash.

Edit: I just looked at the other rust opinion thread. Maybe that cab mount is exactly like original. I still think the frame may have been replaced.
