Most EVs don't have a transmission, just a gear box. However, for any design that does emply a transmission, there is no reason it cannot be a true manual (Jeep Magneto).

I don't see an EV in my future. I highly doubt an EV will be on the market that works well for a trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks, much less a drive up the Dalton. Batteries take too long to charge and are too heavy for energy content. Perhaps a plug in hybrid that also has supper capacitors. At the moment, the tech is not ready.

I have a 2020 automatic. Regret not getting a manual all the time. I feel like most people how defend the auto are just experiencing buyers remorse.

I'm hoping an existing company keeps a line of gas cars or a new company starts that makes gas cars for hobby. EVs are soul less. How would you tune it, replace your $10,000 electric motor with a new $15,000 electric motor. It's sad that gas cars will die. Nothing will ever replace that feeling of pushing every part of a car to the limit and upshifting at (or over) redline. I can't ever see an EV feeling like that no matter how fast it is.

I think hybrids and plug in hybrids are the future for quite a while. As much as full ev sounds good, there isn’t the range or charging infrastructure today.

I was watching a towing test with the rivian the other day, 100 miles of range before the battery was gone.

A gearbox is a transmission, of sorts.

I agree with you, My comment was more along the lines of when we're all forced to have EVs, I'd rather have the one that simulates a manual rather than the one that is completely and 100% soulless

I agree with this and so does Toyota. A lot of the EV push is to get manufacturers to match the new cafe standards.

Also saw that rivian video, kind of sad to be honest.

Most likely I will outlive my truck, and by the time it croaks in 20 years EV will probably be my primary option, so I want to be optimistic that there will be a functional manual 'simulator' so I can still enjoy rowing the gears when I want.

When people say EVs will never work out because the technology isn't ready today:

Get the simulator dialed in just right to where you can actually feel the "grind" when you miss a shift.

Attach a vibrator motor to the stick to provide haptic feedback, simulated gear grind

Will there be simulated stalls, or would it be unstallable?

Actually, I believe in the article it did say it could stall.

Might as well also add turbo and sc noises. Then people can get exactly what they want

I wonder if they could work in the high ratio reverse found in my 17? Then I'd feel like I was driving my truck still.

You could probably hack the programming and make the ratio EVEN HIGHER if you want
