Guys you always help so I'm back. I know nothing about tires and rims.

Currently I have stock rims on my 06 double cab 4x4, tire size is 265/75/R16. When I bought this truck you guys let me know this was the tire to go with and I have no scrubbing or rubbing, love it.

So my plan is to swap over to some 17" rims which means I'm going to have to change tire sizes. What size tires do I need to go with so that I get exactly what I have on there now ? I dont want the tire hanging off the edge of the fenders, want the same look, same fit.

Also, when I go to purchase the 17" rims, do I need to specify the width of the rim ?

    Thanks
    Dennis

265/70/17 is the equivalent to what you have now.

You'll need to figure out the rim width and offset you want. If you go with OEM 17" wheels and 265/70/17 tires you'll have the same fitment you have now.

If you go with aftermarket rims you'll need to consider the rim width and offset/backspace.

Factory offroad wheels are 7" wide with a +30mm offset. So if you want to keep the stock fit, that's what you need. Most aftermarket wheels are going to be wider or have different offsets that push the rim and tire out from the vehicle for a more aggressive stance.

Thanks Eric ! I'll start looking at that in my choice of rims. Wanted to check with you guys before I got my heart set on a set and find out later it's not what I really wanted.

If you are looking for an example, the invoice for my 17x9 wheels by Ultra say 6-5.5 (lug pattern) and "medium offset," and I went with the recommended 265/70-17s.

Here is mine with the tire size you want (265/70/17) with 17x8" wheels and 0 offset. A more positive offset would bring the wheel further under the truck, a more negative offset would push it away from the truck and outside the fenders.

Be ready to get new TPMS sensors too…the ones in the base steel wheels won’t work with alloy.

You guys definitely know your trucks (and mine). As always thanks !!
Went to local tire shop that has tons of rims on display. I went in just to look and guy came over to help me said exactly what you guys said. Zero offset if I want exact same and medium would hang over fender a little and prob sling mud and dirt on body of truck.

Check out Craigs list etc. for a set. Lot of people immediately take their new stock wheels and tires off to replace with whatever.
I had the 245/75/16 steelies on them, and got these 265/65/17 and wheels with only around 300 miles on them for 1K. No issues with clearance or offset.
