That and nobody where I am works on the 1HZ (or any Toy diesel) are why I haven't ever gone for one. West coast guys have more options for getting work done and help with diagnosing/sourcing etc. But I'll never say never.
There a few local diesel 80s running around here though, and I saw a Hilux Surf at the airport this morning, first I've seen locally.

    How about a Chevy-swapped 60 series?

    https://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/d/colorado-springs-1983-toyota-landcruiser/7446093364.html

A bit crusty underneath and a bit spendy... but you could for sure find someone to work on the engine.

Plenty of room for a baby seat, plus cage.

I thought of you and your LC when I walked in and was told "hey, here comes our welder"

The actual muffler itself I was able to run vertical down and horizontal. 4-6" beads at a time due to the thin metal and heat build up.

That outer shield (not shown, was cut off) was so damn thin though, like sheet metal compared to the muffler. It made me wish I had a 3/32" 6013 rod and stick welder; would've laid nice and flat with that low heat.
