An oversimplified explanation is that Toyota plans their builds and allocates to dealers what they have planned. Dealers can sometimes request a change to an allocation such as color, but from what I have seen that is not highly successful. They can however try and trade an allocation with a different dealer if it is something they can sell or something that aligns close to what you are wanting. Now if they will do that is a different story. They will sell whatever allocation they get before it is built so if you have a good dealer then your chances go up.

Dealers do have a little more control over port options, but it will be nothing like ordering a Ford to your specs. If they have an allocated Barcelona Red TRD OR DCSB AT with some factory options then that is more than likely what the dealer is going to get for you.

Some trims and colors are going take much longer to get. I think customers wanting LR or AG are being told it could be six months or more. Same goes for Manuals vs Automatic. MTs seem to be taking much longer to get.

I purchased my tundra from McGee last year. Trading in on a lunar trail edition soon, as long as I get good trade value. Truck is currently held up at port hope to see it this month.

Interesting. So, $1k for a lojack that you don't get to keep? Definitely a scam. lol.

Only 5% of Tacomas each year are manuals. There are built every three months. Next batch is due around early march. Best advice for @Articdc5 is to begin his search NOW at multiple dealers. Place deposits at those that state refundable deposits. Search far and wide. Allocations are assigned every two weeks around the 1st and 15th. Continue to call those dealers every two weeks. It’s stressful and frustrating but can pay off.

Thanks - so I should basically have deposits down with 2+ dealerships (one nearby and another further away?) Or go all out and have $2k up in deposits within 4 dealerships?

Anyone know which state would receive plentiful access cabs over the other?

Some dealers are not selling to out of state buyers so make sure you ask that question. My opinion would be to walk into all your local dealerships and find out when they get their allocations. Then go in on that day and see if they have what you want.

seems from checking the excel sheet that CA is getting a majority of allocations. I have a deposit down at two dealers and I have contacted 4-5 more who have my contact information in case they see something close to what I want. I’ve told them all I will drive to their dealer to pay them at a moments notice. Still not feeling confident

Do vins disappear once the truck is built from the spread sheet?

The only time a deposit is legit is if it’s on an allocation truck with a temp vin allocated to that dealer. Otherwise you are just in line to MAYBE get a call for an allocation. I know it sucks but I am glad I did a bunch of reading and talked to plenty of dealerships about the process.

Not sure I’m in FL and have seen one truck coming here on the sheet in a month of checking it. And the truck was spoken for

Ok thanks. I was given two "vins" by dealers of trucks that are supposedly built and in transit, but they do not show up on the spread sheet. Maybe they are not the real vins?
