    Hey all,
As you know, my c. converter was stolen 2 weeks ago on my 2019. I'm waiting to get an OEM replacement for what dealer said could take up to 3-4 weeks. I'm surprised that the dealer suggested aftermarket, claiming that Magna-Flow is very close in quality to the oem. Don't know bout that one. Sounded off Toyota dealer suggesting that, but not an expert, either.

Most likely cheaper and higher flowing...why would you not go aftermarket?

Like I said... I'm no expert. Don't know much about them, other than it sucks when they get
    hacked off your truck.

I am probably wrong, just ask my wife, but I once heard California won't allow an aftermarket converter. I'm probably wrong and I don't know if other states would have such BS policies.

Don't think it's an issue here in Texas.

Unless things have changed, I've bought aftermarket cats in California in the past. The California legal ones from Napa, etc, are much more expensive than the generic ones you can get on ebay.

Don't even replace the cats then, just have some exhaust pipe welded in place of them. More horsepower and zero chance of them being stolen again!

    Oh look, another mod....

Sorry to hear that you got robbed. Threads like this are exactly whey I bought and am having my Cat-Security plate installed this Saturday. I found a cat system that is in stock and fits your truck:

I was unaware Texas had those. Disregard.

If they are going to warranty it, go for it.

The smog guy in CA mentioned to me that I had a cat replacement and I asked him how he knew. They use a mirror to read the Carb # on the bottom of the cat.

My cat got stolen 10 years ago and the main thing to avoid is the cheap replacement cats. In my experience most muffler shops will only use the cheap ones so they can make more money. I had 2 cheap ones fail in 2-4 years each. So finally I got a good one which will cost you at least $500, more in CA and put it in myself. For the money I spent on replacement cats I could have got the OE Toyota, was $1000 wholesale at the time. I think the Magnaflow or Walker are the best aftermarket you can get.

Aftermarket cat was talking about. If they warranty it, go for.

If going aftermarket, check the cell count. Most aftermarket cats will have a much lower cell count, which improves the exhaust flow but might cause emissions issues for states that are super stringent, (but that's still unlikely).
Magnaflow makes good stuff. I just installed Magnaflow cats on a Porsche and wouldn't hesitate to put them on my Tacoma.

That's what the other two quoted post said, aftermarket. Go back and read.

Common sense, that nobody would think a stolen part would warranted. Can't believe you and other member even assumed I talking about that. People need to learn how to read entire post.
