You'd think it would cost more to make an AM only radio... Unless those radios were sitting around since 1982...
Was it digitally tuned or mechanically tuned?

Digital; GM used digital AM radios from 1991 to 1995; They even made the square ones for the GMT-400 full-size pickups and SUVs!

TLDNR the entire thread. Assuming the “yard” accepted fault their insurance will pay. Regardless keep rental receipt's. You can charge back after the fact.

The only reason I contacted my insurance company is because I have not heard from their insurance company yet...

Well that doesn't include the thousand dollar deductible that my insurance company will be going after the scrapyard for...

Your insurance has nothing to do with this, wasn't your fault.

Well that estimate is from my insurance company; I don't even know who the scrapyard's insurance company is, but I'm beginning to smell a rat. I talked to the manager of the scrapyard yesterday and he was of the impression that I had already been contacted. That was yesterday morning, and I still haven't heard from them! My insurance company is going to write me a check, minus the deductible, then go after the scrapyard's insurance company for the deductible.

I would have never contacted my insurance company if it wasn't my fault. It takes time, have to be patient. Especially since it's not a life or death wreck and basically just some sheet metal damage. Best of luck with it.

Different states have different insurance regulations, but in MA if it's the other guys fault there is NO deductible for you. As I said earlier, USAA will subrogate what they pay you from the at fault insurance company. While for you this is a claim on your auto insurance for the scrap yard it's a claim on their general liability insurance. PA may be different, but this should be a transparent process to you. Did USAA send out an appraiser to come up with that amount?

Remember that often once the body shop starts working they find additional damage and have to file a supplemental claim, so it could be more in the end. And again, that should be transparent to you.

Common sense would say this is cut and dry, but something similar happened back in 2015; A drunk old man in a Mercedes hit my truck at a 3-way intersection. He insisted I ran the stop sign up until the police put the handcuffs on him...

His insurance company sent an adjuster to look at my truck, and they were ready to give me a check for like $3,000; However, they kept calling him and he didn't answer until two weeks after the claim was filed.

When they finally did reach the old prick, he stuck with his story that I'd run a stop sign and they believed him, even though he was facing DUI charges and the suspension of his license at that point.

The insurance company took him at his word and left a message on my parents' answering machine saying that our stories contradicted and they weren't going to pay for repairs to my truck. Goodbye.

My insurance company (USAA) took on the case; They wrote me a check, waived the deductible, and didn't raise my rates since it was 100% the fault of the drunk guy.

They went to court, and it didn't get fully resolved until the spring of 2016 (this happened in October 2015); I was not affected in the slightest, but they ended up coming to a draw because the asshole's insurance just couldn't get past his story that I'd run a stop sign. I even still have a copy of the police report somewhere; It says that "both drivers claim the other ran a stop sign" or something. I never got a ticket, and my insurance rates were not affected.

That said, one thing I've learned is that seemingly every insurance company but USAA is run by slimeballs who will totally ignore glaring evidence in order to save money; Forgot to mention that the old man who hit me in 2015 was a repeat offender who was convicted and did prison time for killing somebody while driving drunk in the 1980s!

    One exception; Erie Insurance...

A woman hit me in a parking lot back in September 2020; She had Erie and they were awesome.

The prick who hit me in 2015 had Foremost Insurance, which I'd never heard of and was owned by Zurich; An adjuster Zurich came out to look at my truck, and then I ended up getting a call from a woman who gave me a different company name... o_O

    Something was definitely not right!
