Counter intuitive. You have to find and accept the work of somebody who will not guarantee their work. It will be an independent, somebody doing work on the side. A commercial shop doesn’t want to deal.

Did you dig and hammer around the frame? Is there still sound metal that can be welded?

The problem is the rust is usually as bad or worse on the inside of the frame.
Once you start cutting, you might be cutting more than expected to get to a place that is suitable for welding.

BTW, is the one spot right by the catalytic converter?

…stamping frames outta melted down, third hand, patio furniture and waving a used can of paint near them causes rot.

It certainly doesn’t help. I don’t know the scientific reason, but I believe it has to do with the repeated wet/dry cycles the frame goes through at the cat.

One would think the the frame would rust faster at the A/C drain spot. Which drips directly on the frame. But it doesn’t rot as fast there. Weird huh?

You're in a rough position once it breaks thru at that spot its most likely compromised in other areas as it definitely trusts from.inside out. There are companies that make patch pieces that can be welded which will extend.the life of the frame. Some states allow frame repair and some don't to pass inspection. Not sure how Tennessee works. Good luck

Before you commit to patchwork, make sure you're not just putting lipstick on a pig.

A proper exam with a ball peen, big screwdriver and a borescope is in order, and may reveal a deeper problem.

If not, you are really lucky.

If the rest of the frame is solid and you end up wanting to still get it fixed, there is a list on the safetcap website of shops that do that work.

Otherwise you’d have to hope a local offroad fab shop will do it. That’s the only shop that will do that work in my area. Body shops basically told me to fuck off when I asked about my 4Runner.

Cost is going to be stupid even for one small section of frame from someone who will do it “right”. Frame patch isn’t really “right” but it is what it is and I have had to go that route on a vehicle I got rid of.

Where did this truck spend it's life? Wouldn't think you are having frame rot from a TN. truck.

The outside of the frame where this is, is perfect just where the converter is has rotted.

I bought this from Raleigh NC. It passed its annual inspection just a few months ago. I crawled underneath the truck and looked before I bought it. Frame looked great.I just missed this one spot
