There is no aftermarket fueling solution available for the third gen Tacoma to date. Nothing exists. VF tuner is working on a fueling solution but has encountered numerous set backs. Water or meth injection would be a possible intermediary next step but also nonexistent for this application.

Installed my 87mm pulley this morning, getting the belt back on with the fan in the way was the hardest part, but was still super easy. Took maybe 15 mins.

Looking forward to a drive test and see if that helps the SC here at 6k ft.

Just an update on the 84mm pulley on the Magnuson stock tune… Don’t do it. Lol.

AFR’s exceed 13 at 4k rpm and again at 6k rpm second gear. Max boost is 9 psi sustained 5-6k rpm in second gear. In third gear the truck hits 8 psi at 4k rpm… which is too much boost for stock fuel. Can feel the truck pull timing as boost raises. Feels less powerful than the 87mm. Didn’t get to test 5-6k rpm third gear for obvious reasons.

Stick with the 87mm pulley if staying with Magnuson stock tune.

Hey guys, looking for a little help! 2021 trd pro taco 5k miles (on both truck and supercharger), was cruising on the freeway at 75 when the truck went into limp mode. Pulled off the freeway, disconnected the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes. Truck started back up and ran fine. Took it to the dealer where they pulled these codes:

P0300 00 Random multiple cylinder misfire detected
P0300 27 Random multiple cylinder misfire detected (emission) signal rate of change above threshold
P0300 85 Random multiple cylinder misfire detected (over temperature) signal above allowable range

p0660 14 Intake tuning valve control circuit to ground or open
    P1604 00 Startability Malfunction

I know the bottom 2 codes are not related to the limp mode event, first one is part of the supercharger install, second is from running out of fuel. The dealer said the truck was "to modified" for them to want to dive into it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

The ECU has misfire protections. When misfire is detected, it'll shut down the affected cylinders to prevent damage (this is the limp mode you experienced).

You actually don't need to disconnect the battery to clear it. Just pull over and cycle power and it'll clear the code(s) and run on all cylinders. So I'm assuming they pulled stored codes, not active ones.

You shouldn't have a p0660-14 code; that's the acis. During install, there's a plug that's supposed to be plugged in off on it's own to prevent the code from popping. @Formidable is familiar with it and can lend some help there I believe.

Regarding the p1604, what do you mean when you say running out of fuel? It shouldn't be starved.

Are you running a fuel pump voltage booster?

@mZiggy thanks for the response! Yes they pulled stored codes not active ones.

I believe the p1604 is from running the vehicle out of fuel after replacing the fuel tank with a long range tank. Unrelated to the limp mode event.

Would love to learn more about the p0660-14 if @Formidable has some info!

No Voltage booster on the fuel pump. I understand the ECU has misfire protection, curious what caused the misfire.

    Thanks

Is it possible you had bad fuel/sub 91octane or something related to the aftermarket tank pickup running dry?

When I was getting my twin turbos dialed with OVTune, I'd misfire in high rpm (5500+) because the stock fuel pump struggles with high load/demand over a long period of time (such as a WOT pull throughout the rpm band), but this *shouldn't* be an issue with the blower.

Could be worth taking a look at your spark plugs and confirming that they're gapped properly. OE gap is specified at 0.031 for the 3GT and Magnuson does not require a narrower gapping for their kit, meaning as long as they're 0.031 you're g2g. I wouldn't go less than 0.028 for 90mm pulley.

There's also been reports here and there of the cylinder 5 plug being loose from factory, but your codes don't align with cyl5 so...

Always put 91 in it....unless the gas station had lesser quality fuel. Had plenty of fuel in the tank to be the pick up wasn't starved. Good question though.

@mZiggy going to pull the plugs today, inspect them and replace them. Making sure they are properly gapped. Any brand you recommend?

The ACIS unit is left unplugged with the installation of the supercharger. That p0660 code is normal to see.

Bad gas is the most likely culprit. Accidentally putting in 87 instead of 92 is a common mistake. Always garaged? No night time street parking? Our tanks are not locked and there are a lot of people on edge out there right now. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone decided to put something in the tank that shouldn’t be there.

What elevation and ambient temp did this happen at?

I would reflash the Magnuson tune when you get the truck back and get in the habit of doing so every few months. The Lexus cars tuned on VF tuner report the tune reverting back to stock over time. Wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if something similar happens with this platform.

FYI my passenger side front cylinder (1?) was loose as a goose at 60k. 3 was finger tight.

about how long does it take for Magnuson to write and provide your tune once the blower is installed?

also, is this something that can be done before the blower is even put in? or does it have to be in the truck first?

Yep, I did that with Magnuson before mine was out of the box. Just need the blower serial #

I did the whole process in 24 hours, first email in the morning, had my tune file by late afternoon.

I sent in the info as soon as UPS dropped the boxes off. You need the serial, job, and programming cable numbers.

If you need your truck I wouldn't recommend starting the install until you have the tune in hand.

I dropped my truck off Tuesday and I was told by the mechanic that it might not be done tomorrow because they have to wait on the tune and that he was going to "scan" the computer now. What little I know of this whole process sent all kinds of red flags up.
