Hey TW. Trying to decide between a hard cap snd a softopper. The only thing that has me second guessing a softopper is the fact that the rear window has to be rolled up or thrown overtop to get access to the bed.

This may not even be feasible. I’m not 100% certain how it operates
Is there anyone out there that has modified the rear window to open more like a hard shell?

I’m thinking of maybe a metal frame made of some pipe, a matching metal frame inside the topper end with some gas struts with some sort of lock to keep it from opening unless you want it to

    thanks

Did you ever build anything or find any info on this topic?

I’ve been thinking about trying to build one. Because winter temps are not friendly for flipping up the back door.

no I never did. I did have some ideas though. I’m an electrician. We use alot of emt. It’s easy to bend You could pretty easily make a frame to attach to the rear section. Attach some gas struts and I think it would work pretty well

Ok. Nice, I'm also an electrician. I also weld so I was thinking about welding up some flat aluminum for a frame.
