I know that my second gen trd off road has 1330’s. So does anyone know if all 3rd gens are running 1350 u joints or if only some models got the 1350’s. As in maybe just the mt trucks or trd models are running the bigger u joints.

Reason I’m asking is the splines are shot on my driveshaft, rubber boot got ripped off awhile ago and let crud get in there. The metal must be pretty soft because there’s a ton of play and it’s getting to the point where the vibration under decel is worrying me. I’ve dealt with it for awhile and always kept tension on the driveline (no vibes if I’m into the throttle or downshifting) but now i have some money and a better job so I want to buy a new, or used new’ish shaft. Most listings for the used shafts don’t state what the u joint size etc is so I’m curious. As I’m not looking to downgrade to 1330 u joints.

Also if anyone sees this thread and has a Tom woods 1 peice please chime in. If I’m going to go new I can’t justify spending so much on the same crappy 2 peice shaft when I could get a Tom woods for less. Only question/concern I have is how low do they hang. I wheel up tight atv trails etc sometimes, so I’m just worried that if I go over a large water bar or bank and drag frame would that take out the driveshaft? How much lower does it hang than the 2 peice? I’m lifted 6 inches on 35’s but I’ve definitely gotten into places before that have left me dragging frame for almost the length of the cab.

I would take the truck to a reputable Driveline shop and have everything repaired/upgraded.

Your lifted 6 inches on 35’s so why would you bang up your drive shaft anyway?

If only I had a driveline shop around me, we used to have a guy that custom made shafts in the next town over but he is getting up there in age and I don’t believe he’s in buisness any longer. I wish his son would have taken over the buisness because they did a damn fine job.

I sometimes find myself in situations where I drag frame. Over large water bars/ banks or down skidder trails etc. Just because it’s a 3rd gen doesn’t mean it’s not a Toyota haha it still goes everywhere and anywhere.
