Interesting, thats a good point about the K02's... I was looking at wildpeaks so I will have to do more research.

Currently going through posts and I found a few ppl that changed out the stock UCA to help with not only the alignment but some other brands allow more clearance for this size tire.

oh and 285 is out of the question right now. I have no desire for Cab mount chop....

I finally have something useful to add to this thread!

2015 TRD Sport DCSB Texas Edition(?)
    Bilstein 5100’s
Stock coils set to 2.5” front
    1” rear block spacer
    Stock wheels
    285/70R17 Falken Wildpeaks
    All mud flaps removed
No rubbing on fenders, wheel wells, or cab mount
Rubs UCA only at full turn
I’ll drive it and decide if I need to install wheel spacers. Probably 3/4”-1” spacers max if I do.E9C277A7-DE68-4D75-9665-E843D041C46E.jpgE9EA6BA6-3B4B-4298-BF6A-15889111C7DE.jpg

3rd gen... Boy this is quite the rabbit hole. I've been looking for a wheel tire combo I like and there are so many widths/offsets/backspacing and combinations that work or do not with various amounts of work to make fit my mind is numb lol. I will be putting in 5.29:1 gears with air lockers and a 3" OME lift to carry extra weight. I am building this truck for travelling not rock crawling. I've used BFG for 30 years so I think I have settled on the AT in a 285/70R17 which puts me at about 32.6" SPC UCA should help the alignment adjustments. The wheels I want are a mixed bag. Some fit, some do not. I am liking the Black Rhino Barstow but it only comes in a 9.5" wide with either a 0 or -18 offset. I know from searching this forum that the -18 will rub the cab mount but I am not clear if the truck was lifted or stock height as it was not listed. I am concerned being 9.5" wide that a zero offset may foul with the UCA. The Abrams was another I was interested in and has different offsets because A Tacoma fitment should be all over the board right? None of the BR wheels are standardized but the Abrams does come in a 17x8.5. KMC Recon was another and Method MR312 another. Anyone run the barstows in a 17x9.5 zero offset who can clear this up before I order? Tire Rack, Discount and these others all have different opinions. Thanks:)

Does anyone have any feedback here? I have
2.25 Ironman full lift with UCAs
    17x8.5 -10 offset SCS Ray 10's
I'm considering 285/70/17 or 265/70/17 Maxxis Razr AT's. The weight on these is amazing (43 and 39lbs respectively)

I do not have a Cab Mount Chop and I have a clearance front bumper. Will I be good to go? Thank you! I'm currently running 2657516 Cooper AT3 4's.

If you’re traveling and not rock crawling why add lockers? A rear locker would be wise, but lockers aren’t needed and you’ll likely not use the rear just overlanding.

9.5” wide would be a poor choice. For one, likely too wide for the recommended mounting width on your tires. 8” wide with 0mm offset would be best, the 8.5” width would be next best.

Are you looking at p-metric tires? Those weights are awfully low. Likely not LT rated which runs the risk of puncture or slash on rocks.

265 will clear without CMC. 285 will more than likely need CMC.

Has anyone ran 285's with a CMC and 5100's set at 3rd notch? I'm on the TRD beadlocks, curious if I could get away with keeping it that low.

I have a 2015 with a 2in block in front and back. Just ordered 17x9 -12mm wheels. I was hoping for 285/70r17 but after reading through this forum it doesn’t look possible. What’s the biggest tire I could run without doing a CMC? I’m not worried about minor trimming.

What’s up guys. Im a new Taco owner and have some questions. I’ll be doing most of my driving on the road with some very light off roading. I’ve got a 19 SR5.

    1. What’s a good lift kit to start with? I’ve been looking at Bilstein 5100 complete lift kit. If I were to purchase this would I need to purchase anything else or would this be everything I need in one kit?

    2. I’m currently on stock 16” wheels and unsure if I want to go up to a 17” wheel. I’m going for a more aggressive look. I’d like for the tires to stick out just a little past the fenders. What are your opinions?

I guess my main question is what’s a good lift kit/wheel/tire set up to run? My budget is around $4000. Am I better off staying with my 16” wheels and just getting the lift and new tires? I’m basically clueless. Thanks for your help! @eccracer104

    Hey man,

That pic is Bilstein 5100 up front at the top notch (2.5” lift). Rear is stock.
    Wheels are 17x9 with a -12mm offset (4.5” back spacing) and 285/70/17 tires (~33”).

I rubbed like a mofo. Tire shop couldn’t even turn the wheels to get it out. Needed to trim a bunch of the inner fender well plastic, and years later learned of the cab mount chop (aka CMC aka BMC) which took care of the rubbing I got there.

5100s are a great budget friendly lift that rides well and can handle some off road abuse. I have 5100s again on my new truck (Tundra) and I abuse those poor little shocks haha.

Back to wheels: you’ll save yourself some rubbing by going to a narrower wheel, but you’ll lose some of the “poke” out from the fender.

Ok just want to double check. Running OME nitros with 887s, TC uppers, and inhave TC gusseted spindles that retain the sway bar. I'm currently running FJ cruiser wheels with 285/70/17 Cooper ST Maxx's on 1.25 spacers. I'm looking at getting 16x8 methods with 4.5 backspace and 0 offset and plan on running 295/75/16s. If I go to this set the methods should clear the gusseted spindles right?

Yeah, those wheels will clear the gusseted spindles.
