Had a dealer tell me no as well. Few thousand in markups on port add ons. I walked. But ended up with better deal anyway elsewhere.

Here's what I ended up with.

Going to see if they'll toss in a LB Bed mat for freesies.

My dealer was able to remove the running board/steps. So it seems they can, but they might not be willing to

I agree, I just feel like they added a bunch of random accessories to drive up the MSRP.

I guess the trick is finding a good dealer who will honor your request. I know colors and factory options can't be altered, but for accessories at least give us some input for a truck we are buying.

You got lucky, walking away is easy but finding another truck in this market in the color/options you want is a gamble because you can delay your wait for months and no guarantee you'll find another with less/no accessories.

I've read about some dealers here actually changing the color of the truck also... So who the hell even knows. Luck of the draw and badassness of the dealer i suppose

My dealer removed mud flaps and added a tailgate lock and bed lights. That was post allocation and well before it was built.

Just got a call from my local Dealership. Got my allocation!! Army Green TRD OR DCLB, Tech package, bed light, blackout, tailgate lock, and predator steps, etc. Pretty close to exactly what I was after.

I got stuck with door edge guards ($140 pieces of crap) and the predator tube steps I don't want. He said they can't control it, the port guys put whatever on. At least he's giving me full credit for the tube steps. I'll probably eat the door edge guards because they aren't reusable, but I want them off.

Two questions, why do you want them off so badly is it the look? Second, does it damage the paint when removed?

I was just in my dealer today dealing with a Blind Spot Monitor recall. Apparently, there is also another recall. I have to wait for parts, then go back.

BUT, while I was waiting for them to diagnose my situation, I talked to a salesman. He said they are accepting $1,000 deposits but they are NON-REFUNADABLE. You CAN transfer the $ to another vehicle, but otherwise, you are SOL. They had 100+ people on a wait list, though.

I thought that was pretty egregious.... is that now the standard, non-refundable deposits?

Thanks! I have a lot of add-on accessories on mine, including the shitty floor mats and the $565 vehicle protection premium package. My dealership is pretty big, So I'm going to ask nicely that they pull those two off and I'll replace with something of equal value, like the TRD exhaust. We'll see if they go for it.

I had to put down a $500 non-refundable deposit on my TRD Sport... Same story, I can transfer it to another vehicle, but I can't get it back if I walk away

I don't like the look of them at all. I know it sounds weird, but sometimes subtle things like that drive me nuts where it breaks the intended lines of the vehicle. There's a very small chance I won't remove them. If removed properly, it shouldn't damage the paint. Some people report they just fall off after a while. They are just held on by friction; no glue or anything. I have never banged my door on anything where it would cause damage. I'm careful especially in windy situations. It is far more likely some a-hole will ding my door with their door, which these things don't help with that. Just my 2 cents. They probably cost $5 each, but of course they want to screw us and charge $140.

Here is a Toyota video on installation, and at about 4:30 they tell you how to remove them if they aren't installed right. So I assume it is safe to remove them with the right tools

I just got confirmation of mine last week, I was running into it more and more as my search wore on. I suppose it’s a Good way to ensure you keep peoples business And aren’t sinking hours and hours into a Vehicle search for someone who’s just going to leave. I withdrew several deposits after I secured mine… those dealers are paying those people, as much as we demand as consumers is still a business and they need to trim while margins are narrow… also, just thought of this… I wonder if there are metrics associated with allocation such as turn time that determines a dealers allocation priority?
