Tacoma blackout overlays

I'm looking to cover my chrome badges with the black pvc overlays. I saw an older out of date thread on a general google search but I'm asking if anyone can suggest where to purchase the overlay sets of good quality. Amazon probably has them, but I've had mixed results with items I've ordered for my truck in the past from the vendors on there. Mostly decent stuff but some bad. Just looking for the best value with the good 3M adhesive for application. I've also seen that the factory stuff is extremely expensive. Thanks in advance for any help.

Got the adhesive ones from tacoma lifestyle. Look great and have held up great for 6 months so far.

make sure you just select the correct ones such as 4x4 sr5, v6 ect.

I got this kit from Auto Safety… lots of great reviews. This includes the Tailgate Insert letters. Just remember to make sure they are made of ABS plastic. That is what the OEM ones are made of.

OEM fit better than the Amazon ones as the cheap ones doesn't caover the chrome all that well. Ask me how I know.

 

Plasti dip works great for $6, and won't give you the solid center section of the A's. But if you're set on overlays do you!

 

I got mine off of Ebay. Previous links that people may post may be outdated, so I would suggest just going to both Amazon, as well as Ebay and just searching for YEARToyota tacoma black overlays. Take a little time and just search. It will pay off. Also, there is a difference between overlays and black emblems. The emblems are complete replacements for the original chrome emblems, whereas the overlays literally just stick over the chrome ones.

I bought my OEM overlays off eBay.

I tried Amazon for the Tacoma tailgate inserts and they were crap. Out of the box they were aluminum with a black coating, I thought they felt pretty decent quality but the finish lasted one season. Took them off, and bought the OEM plastic inserts off the same seller on eBay, been great since. Lesson learned, the cheaper crap on Amazon is probably crap.

 

Bought OEM overlays from EBay and they have held up great. Ultimately ended up debadging the truck besides the door “TACOMA” emblems but have never put any UV protective coating on them besides regular washes and they still look new after 2+ years and no issues with the adhesive.
Also got the OEM tailgate inserts and they are far better than any other aftermarket inserts I’ve seen thus far.

 

Got mine on Amazon, been on the truck for almost 2 years with plenty of pressure washing and temps from single digits to 100+ with no issues

 

I think it’s fairer to say that the vendor you purchased from on Amazon sold crappy inserts/overlays.

The vendor I purchased mine on Amazon sold ABS plastic ones like the OEM ones, and I’ve had zero issues.

Nice! Glad there are at least some quality items out there. I think you definitely roll the dice with Amazon purchases though. Can't always trust the reviews.

 

I also bought mine on Amazon and so far I haven’t had any issues at all. I’ve had them on for a bit over a year at this point.

I agree that it totally depends on the seller though.

 

Overlays are a permanent fixture that can only be removed if you replace the entire badge. Just buy OEM.
