    Hi there,
Does anyone know of anything being sold as far as like a steel plate or something to protect our catalytic converter?

Lots of very informative threads here.

Search here for mfg "Cat Security", "Talon", "Miller".

Those seem to be the 3 most prominent. Personally, I bought the Cat Security just a few weeks after buying my truck last July. I still like it best out of the 3.

And at the price they are getting for those cat guards you can get skid plates that actually do something and deter theft

I thought so. Some have whined about needing to drill a couple holes in the frame and insert threadserts (tool is included with inserts) but I found it no big deal and it took about an hour.

TLDR; There is nothing secure about ANY of the Cats on a Taco. Certainly not my '21, anyway. There are 2 hanging right there on either side of the tranny ready for a Sawzall to cut away. It's pretty damned easy to access them as there's plenty of room to crawl under and work on them. Just in the last couple weeks there have been a few stolen from members here and Tacos are near the top of the list for thieving. Right under the Prius, I heard.

    1. There was a CatSecurity shield on sale on this forum recently. But they are well-priced and available here https://getcatsecurity.com/
    2. Mine's a 2021, and there are no "additional" protection features beyond the bringing the cats closer to the engine, which makes them harder to take. There are 4 catalytic converters, but two of them remain easy to access.
    3. There are a number of methods to deter cat theft, including alarm wires, painting your cats and engraving the VIN on them, and skid plates
    4. If you choose to go the CatSecurity route, check out my installation woes thread -- https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/not-sure-how-to-diy-install-the-ccm-catsecurity-shield.754507/ -- It's not that it isn't easy to install, just that you've to drill 2 holes into your truck's frame, and this means you'll need a way to lift the truck by at least some to get your drill in there. I'm also unable to figure out (still) how to install one of the bolts correctly, but that could be because I have the TRD Pro Skid also. People have done installs in their driveway, but I'm planning to take it to a DIY shop with a lift. Cheaper than buying a jack.
