265/70/17 on 8.5" Wide wheels

Thanks. They came with the truck when I bought it at the dealership. I can’t recall what name they go by.

 

I want to go with this setup too but my truck is 2wd. Everybody so far have all been 4x4. Does anyone know if I'd have any issues?

 

All the 3rd gens are the same in wheel/tire fitment, since they don't make 5 lug versions anymore.

 

But don't 4x4s have a taller ride height? I'm concerned about rubbing and bottoming out and such.

 

Nope. 'Maybe' the Pro is a touch higher.

Your 2wd has the same basic underpinnings, just sans the front axle/transfer case and associated electrical wizardry.

Shocks vary by model, but shocks don't set ride height. Springs do that.

Hello all! First post here but I've gone through countless threads to end up with the options I've went through so I'll go ahead and list what I've got. So after deciding on tires and wheels I wanted, I ultimately kept coming back to this specific thread to determine what my fitment would be like. I have an unlifted, stock 3rd gen 2020 TRD 4X4 off road with 265/70/17 BFG KO2 load range C for my four tires. The wheels I went with are the Method Race Wheels MR703, 17x8.5 with 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern - Gloss Titanium with a 0 offset. I knew going from the stock wheel offset of +25 to a 0 as well as getting about a .5 to 1 inch larger tire would change some things. From what I read, I thought I would be fine. For the most part I was. However, without messing with the alignment, this setup DOES rub albeit very little. I couldn't tell what or where it was exactly rubbing but it would occur when I had the wheel turned. This was simply fixed by removing the mud flaps, which I don't mind for the moment being but I do look to put them back on in the future. I was told by the people at discount tire to steer clear of messing with alignment because this could bring a whole other slew of problems. Also as side note, if you're looking to change the spare tire to match the new ones you're getting, you're going to need the same size wheel to fit under there and can't use the existing 16" steel wheel currently under there, as this wouldn't fit a 265/70/17 per say. Just a side note, because now I know I should have bought 5 wheels instead of 4 because that 5th would be in use with the spare to be put under the bed of the truck. I'm assuming this is how it works, but haven't done enough research to verify I could fit an aftermarket wheel onto the spare and store it underneath but pretty sure this is how it works. Leave any questions and I'll do my best to respond as I've learned this process of fitment, wheels, tires, rubbing, lifting, etc. is such tricky f'n business. I was not a car guy before owning a Tacoma too lol but I have a better idea of what could work and what probably doesn't just from researching threads here. Welcome to TW. You can run the same diameter tire on your 16" spare steelie if you order a 265/75-16. it will be the same 31.5 or so inches tall that your new 17s are. I ran into the same issue on my 19 OR with rubbing. 17x8.5 O offset KMCs on 265/70-17 rubbed on flaps most noticeable turning in reverse. I lifted it 2" a few days later no issues now

 

Why wouldn't you want an alignment? And what do they mean by opening up a whole slew of problems? Wouldn't your tires wearing out unevenly be a problem already?

 

Sorry for the confusion. They said to avoid doing alignments which are not done by the Toyota dealership or someone who would simply do a general alignment. I've noticed some people here say they've had others do an alignment which allows them to better fit their 265/70/17 w 17x8.5 0 offset. I don't exactly know how alignment work is completed but they were just getting at when you begin to mess w I think it was "camber" and all that which deviates from typical, manufacturer alignment it can mess w some things. I'm still learning how that stuff works but hope this helps

 

Hi thanks for the reply! I'm glad someone else noticed the rub w this setup, I've seen such conflicting reports online with regard to a stock setup. I'm looking to do a level in the future, just leveling out the front to be even with the back. I believe I shouldn't have rubbing then with OEM mud flaps on then. Question: so if i purchase the another wheel (MR 703 17") and mount that to a spare BFG KO2 tire, would I be able to mount that in the spare tire location? I don't know if I cant fit an aftermarker, method wheel down there instead of a steel wheel. Any help?

Dang, no matter how much I search I always miss a post already made. I went with Icon Alloy Rebound Pro's 17x8.5 0 offset and put on Micky Thompson 265/70r17's. I've noticed that when it's clocked all the way to the left and I hit a dip I rub I believe on the UCA. Normal street use i'm fine. Anyone else rubbing at all?

 

I was rubbing w/this same setup no lift. I experienced rubbing in similar scenarios before i removed the mud flaps. Without mud flaps, I haven't experienced rub. I believe the only way to fix this is to lift or level your truck, or remove your mud flaps in the mean time.
