Essentially if you set it to re-circ and don't have any other venting you can asphyxiate, or at least drop oxygen levels low enough to cause problems. As long as you know about it, you can adjust your routines to compensate for it. Not a mod I would do, personally, but I do appreciate it when somebody does something so off the wall that I go:

Suddenly the 5-4-3 gates are smooth and direct on down shifting?

    I can wish......

The vent is far from sealed in mine. With recirculate on I can still smell the stench when I'm behind an oil burner or diesel. I doubt very seriously that enough pressure could build up to pop the windshield out or break glass.

Heh, I've found that I really don't use 5th much at all. The way I accelerate I tend to finish accelerating in 4th, then jump to 6th. When I do use 5th, yeah it's a little clunky but I think some of that may be the amount of reach involved as much as anything else.

I use fifth quite a bit on the way up to the mountain to ski. Winding road, up hill and down. The gate from 5-4 is stupid.

If only a knob would fix it.

PS the '79 RX-7 DOES NOT HAVE THAT ISSUE ;-)

My Mazda3 didn't have that issue either. After installing a Mazda3 shift knob in my Taco it hasn't been enough of an issue to annoy me. Knobs make all the difference.

Would a short throw shifter fix these poor gate issues?

I can't imagine any linkage that reduces mechanical advantage "fixing" gating issues. The shift is done internally by moving forks and sliding pinions.

But, I wouldn't mind getting the comments from someone who has installed a STS. Personally, The Taco is a truck, I can live with . I've got sports cars and motorbikes for when I need to drive.....

But I bought the 6 speed MT for a reason! ;-)

I did do, and part of it was to have top gear closer to me so that I have a comfortable spot for my hand when at cruising speed :p

I put open cell foam in my vents like this when I pulled my jump seats and added soundproofing; it really helped with the road noise. I got the idea from https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ots-of-pics-links.533421/page-5#post-19791252

This will be happening in the lower grill with some other goodies once I get off shift next week. And no, it’s not blue. Haha it’s the protection film.

Does your N2 remote start kill the engine when you open the door?

lol, I keep one hand on the wheel. No more, no less. Mostly because I find palm-steering to be faster and more precise than hand-to-hand or hand-over-hand steering. My right-hand is always ready to downshift at a moment's notice.

So does the recirc seal up 100%? I wouldn’t think it would but I guess I learn something new every day. I do like the foam in the vents idea. It has to muffle the road noise a little bit.

What I meant though was Factory Five used to have the option to order the frame and all the bits and pieces to make it a roller in the first order and then go back and order the body at a later time. It's a nice option for those with limited garage space. Some prefer to order the entire car at once though.

Agreed on the DIYer thing. The fact that everything is designed to bolt up makes it so much easier than fabricating everything from scratch.

Many years ago a family member built a 1927 Ford Roadster with the help of Roy Brizio out of Northern California. Brizio did the frame. It's got a 327 chevy, th400 trans, ford 9 inch, Mickey Thompson sportsman pro tires, Lokar bits and pieces, Porsche guards red paint and custom tan leather interior. It kind of looks like the maroon one that Roy Brizio won the Grand National Roadster show with years ago. (Longer wheel base, not like typical t buckets)

    https://www.roybriziostreetrods.com

    Anyways, I'm sure you'll have a blast.
