I just picked up my '22 TRD OR (yay!). When I went to first start it, it wouldn't start--the check electrical system warning came on. Then the salesmen said there was some security system installed on it that needed to be disabled. He pulled out his phone and, I guess, disabled it. Started right up afterwards

There was a little card in the glove box saying that there was a temporary security system installed that has been disabled, or can be purchased by the customer. There was no brand or any info on that card about what it is.

Is this anything I should be concerned about? I know aftermarket security systems are (were?) notorious for causing electrical issues.

    Anybody encounter this before?

Should I demand the dealer completely remove any trace of it? It wasn't agreed to; they didn't even tell me about it. They just started doing it a few days before my truck came in because they had 7 vehicles stolen from the lot last week.

    Thanks for any advice.

I’d have it removed and verify it was installed without splicing wires.

But, these are very common and if they caused problems dealers wouldn’t be installing I’d imagine. Probably all depends on the installer.

Are there a couple fresh screw holes for the alarm “pod/module” on your dash?

    Oh look, another mod....
I get why they installed it, they wanted to protect their investment. Now that you own it, demand they completely remove it from your truck. You did not ask for it and you don't want the service.

I would have them remove it completely. I installed an N2 on mine and it did not require any splicing of wires and I’m betting it’s better quality then the dealer one.

Maybe. Is this something that shouldn't be there?

Yep, that’s the thingy I was talking about. Zipped right into your brand new truck’s dash. They usually do this and it’s very unprofessional if you ask me.

I wouldn’t go in there swinging but be assertive and get this stuff fixed unless you are cucumber chill and decide to let it drift.

I’d bet a buffalo nickel you’ve got at least a few wires spliced, which is what would chap me most.

They did this on mine. Had to remove it and splice back the wires they cut ,I was not happy that they did it to my brand new truck so stupid

Holy shit, I've never bought a brand new vehicle with crap like that installed. That kind of stuff is usually from used car dealerships.

I've never seen anything like that but I don't live in the big city either.
I'd be a little pissed to have some dork gouging up my dash for their bogus alarm install, that's my job!

Personally, I would tell them to remove it and fix any damage caused by it's install including any wire harnesses that they used wire taps on and any panels they screws things into.

My new 22 civic had the dealer installed alarm. I didn't want or pay for it.

It malfunctioned a few weeks ago in a bad way. I was sitting in the car listening to the radio and the alarm just started going off. I was in a busy shopping center and everyone around me was staring. I couldn't stop it. Tried locking unlocking, tried using the key fob, nada. I walked away from the car and it continued blaring for about 10 minutes.

Had it towed to the dealer and had them remove it. I was forced to write an email to all management and the GM of that dealer because sales and service department didn't want to help.

Really sucks dealers install these. They use 3rd party companies to install. They screw holes in your dash and cut your factory wiring harness. It should be illegal to do this on a brand new vehicle.

I would absolutely make them replace that dash panel and the harness those fuckers compromised when they installed it. That is absolutely fucking insane they would do something like that. SERIOUSLY! You know damned well they had some pimple-faced 18 y/o little fuck named Chip doing the install on that. God only knows what issues might come down the line.

Those of us here would install a professionally built PnP system in the truck and the dealer would scream bloody murder and deny warranty for it and here they do something like that?! And the screws in the dash panel on an unsold $40k truck? FUCK! I wouldn't have done that when I was a 15 y/o punk! Can you tell this pisses me off?!

Why does a temporary alarm system require a permanent dash fixture? I’d be torqued.

I just sent a police email the the person I'd been dealing with, asking that they completely remove the alarm system and restore all wiring to its original condition. I said I could live with the holes in the dash, but if they push back I might demand they fix that too.

Now the question is what to do if they say to just bring the truck back? I tend to be spiteful enough that I just might do that; but not before getting in some good off-roading, and maybe picking up a few half tons of gravel and compost.
