What is a quality LED projector headlight with halo or switchback to replace factory assembly?

^^^ This. And I will add: "... despite marketing claims such as "500% more light."

Bling factor aside, you'll be hard pressed to improve on the OEM headlights.

So I get I should stay away from LED. I have a new to me 2013, headlights are great in the driveway, but get out on a dark country road and they are clearly underpowered.
Can I do better with just getting top quality, high lumen halogens? Im sorry I don't know what's in there now, but was going to swap them out as a hopeful upgrade.

As has already been mentioned, check out this thread. Everything you need to know is covered in the first 5-10 pages.

The ultimate headlight upgrade H4 (not LED or HID) | Tacoma World

The Cliff's Notes version is basically:

    1) The 2nd gen Tacoma OEM headlights are actually some of the best factory headlights out there, but they can safely be improved even more.

    2) Halogen bulbs are the way to fly, but not all halogens are created equal. Higher wattage does not always mean more light. Some of the bulbs with lots of advertising hype (Silverstars, cough, cough) aren't really the best bulbs.

    3) Drop in HID and LED bulbs are pretty much a downgrade in performance - despite what some websites (Headlight Revolution, cough, cough) say.

    4) Aftermarket headlight housings are all pretty much junk and some are a significant downgrade in performance - even though they look sexy. Candles look sexy too, and they put out more light than some of the cheap Chinese junk available on the internet.

    5) Finally, don't believe marketing hype. Trust our resident lighting expert, @crashnburn80 and his unbiased, instrumented testing. He's debunked more than a few lighting myths here.

If I were OP, I’d pair the ultimate headlight mod and the BHLM for that clean TRD Pro factory look while having an awesome setup that blows every aftermarket option out of the water.

Look into Sylvania Silverstar ultras. Super bright and a whiter light. I love em!

If you read the Ultimate Headlight Upgrade post carefully, you'll see that Silverstars are nowhere near the best / brightest bulb. They do get points for aggressive marketing though.

@crashnburn80 had them on one of his graphs. Basically, they don't hold a candle to the better bulbs.

I’m running PIAA extreme white plus 4000k bulbs in stock headlamps. I’m very happy with these bulbs. Big upgrade over stock, but not as good as the factory led lamps in my CX5. Those things are amazing.

Of course they don't do as good as the best bulbs, they are a stock replacement. they work pretty damn good for what they are.

Sylvania has been successfully sued multiple times because they let their marketing department write the performance specs, which don't come close under any testing.

They're significantly higher in color temp. And they perform about as well as a long life/low output bulb. There's a long list of bulbs that perform better.

It doesn't matter that they're "stock replacement bulbs," there are a ton of "stock replacement bulbs" that Crash has tested that perform significantly better. And some of those bulbs come close to the performance of the 100/90 Osrams, in terms of peak intensity.

What is a non-quality LED projector headlight with halo or switchback to replace factory assembly?

There has got to be SOMETHING that people have had somewhat decent results from.

Alpharex = Junk, Morimoto = Barely acceptable. Unless you weigh heavily on the bling factor. Then they're both awesome. (I can't believe I just wrote that.)

Just trying to give him some aftermarket options. When it comes to housings nothing beats OEM

Honestly all I am after is bling. This truck is mainly driven in the daytime, and in a well lit city.

I would love a cheap Chinese option that is at least somewhat reliable.
