My question is, did the people who "stopped looking" still receive the COVID relief unemployment benefits that led to the ridiculous numbers of real unemployment we're seeing now? I know they typically get it if they show they're looking for work, but I'm wondering how they collect the "I'm still looking for work" statistics. Given that most people (excluding retirees) can't live more than a few weeks off their savings, they must be getting money from somewhere.

Job hopping may not be as egregious as it was in the '80s, but it hasn't disappeared. When I was working in software startups in Chicago in the 20teens I was told to look for a new job every 2-3 years max to stay relevant. It's often easier to get hired into a new title or pay grade than to get promoted into one, especially as a young professional without much experience. In software specifically it also helps you keep up with current tech.

The flip side is... instead of getting five years of experience you might get one year of experience five times. That may or may not be useful, depending on your aspirations.

Whatever you do, dont think you can make firepits to sell.

    Been there, tried that.

People have no interest in a $300 fire pit that will last forever when walmarts got em for $89...

Gah I love that movie

I'm not on the clock actively building anything but I have been off the clock spending countless hours between last night and today researching how to get my machine patented. Regretfully I think that avenue is a bust, I would have to put a patent lawyer on retainer to help prove that my idea is different enough compared to preexisting machines that already have patents (I don't think the fact that I have wheels is enough of a difference lol) and honestly it's probably not worth the multi-year headache. I highly doubt my tiny ass company would do anything shady over this and besides (even though there's only 6 of us) I've been put in charge of the entire electrical equipment side

Thank you for the well wishes! Have another for me... I do believe it's almost time for drinking to commence:drunk:

Internet at the new house is strong. There's competition with a fiber company in the neighborhood so Comcast lowered their pricing to the ground. $50 a month

I know a few people who have them. Not perfectly smokeless, but they do impressively very hot and clean.
