Because in some States you will FAIL a smog test, the visual part of the test.

Effective Jan 1 of 2021, in its infinite wisdom, the Colorado legislature adopted the California Resources Board (CARB, how cute) standards for replacement cats. If I understand correctly, if a vehicle is under 8 years old or 80,000 miles it is considered to be under the federal emissions warranty, and a cat MUST be replaced with an OEM part. Owners of older vehicles can opt for either an OEM cat or one that California has chosen as worthy. The legislation is worded in typical obfuscatory style, but that is the gist of it. BS indeed.

I've used 2 hi-flow magnaflow cats before on a daily driver and they tend to last about 20k miles or so. Their quality is nowhere near OEM. I've since switched to flowmaster cats to see how long it would last.

AFE makes performance ypipes with Catalytic converters, and they are based in Cali, so I would think they are legal in the State. I have the non-cat version.Monochrome (4).jpg

Unfortunately lots of places located in Cali make aftermarket stuff that isn't CARB approved here, AFE is in that boat. I don't think their intakes are even CARB legal

Off topic of catalytic converters, but HPS is another example of a CA company selling non-CARB compliant items.

Yeah I just tried ordering one the other day...they won't even ship to CA. Luckily I'm heading to Oregon for work this week so I'll have one shipped to my hotel while I'm there

    Huh ? ? ?

So because Edelbrock is located in California I can install a carburetor and aluminum intake on my truck?

K&N cold air intake must also be legal as K&N is located in California.

Need to start looking at Vortech superchargers for my truck, they too are located in California.

Too bad Nitrous Oxide Systems moved out of California or I would have been able to install that too.

That's some aggression you have there...

I'm not from Cali, I made an assumption based on the idea that if business are located and based in that State that their products are also legal in that State.

Not my fault Cali has some fcked up laws, and I ain't got time to learn all of them.
