A little something every chance we get.
Would appear to be a North American FJ-4 Fury. Closely related to the F-86 Sabre of the Korean War era. Matter of fact - might even be the one listed here in the "where found" section!

Early A-10! Although it's AF, they are still upgrading and modding the A-10 for a few more decades of service. Cool pic

This is the NavyLodge, seen from the rear; It was in built in like 2004-2005, and I stayed in it probably twice. The first time was when we were still kinda living in Northern Virginia, and the whole family came out for my dad's change of command ceremony. It was brand spanking new at the time, and I can remember hooking my PS2 up to the TV in my room and playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas with my cousins. The second time was probably about 2007, when we had just moved out of the rented place in Doylestown and were waiting for the then-new townhouse in Furlong to be built.

In 2011, the Navy side of the base was permanently shut down, and the fairly new NavyLodge was left to rot; Being a government facility, it was never going to be a 5-star hotel, but it was NICE. If you look at from a distance, nothing seems out of the ordinary...

If you look closer, you will see that the thru-wall A/C units have all been removed from the hotel rooms and pieces of plywood have been put up in their place; The guy at the museum said all of the Navy buildings on the base were deteriorating quite badly and many had a significant mold problem. From this distance, aside from the lack of room A/C units, the building seems to be in halfway decent shape. Regardless, it will be torn down if the plans for the permanent museum come to fruition. The roof is in good shape, and I don't think the lodge is as bad as some of the other buildings on the base; I would love to go inside and explore, but I don't think even my dad can make the happen... :(

If you look towards the right side of this photo, you will see one lone rusting central A/C unit, likely a heat pump; I'm guessing that this unit is for a supply room or employee lounge. I have no doubt that this building would require quite a bit of work to make it habitable, but it looks to be in much better condition than some of the other buildings I could see from the "civilian" side of the fence...

The building is likely empty of furniture and appliances, and as you can clearly see in this picture the thru-wall A/C units are gone; This is probably because the Navy requisitioned them for use in other NavyLodge locations. However, the building really does not seem to be in bad shape considering that it has been sitting empty about 11 years!

I forget what building this is, but it may be the old BOQ, where I also stayed with my parents in 2005; We had to stay here because the then-new NavyLodge wasn't completed yet, and while it was nice, it was OLD AND CRAMPED! Our room had a brand new TV, and the heat worked good, but I distinctly remember having to take a lukewarm shower because the water heater wasn't working properly. Staying in the NavyLodge just months later was a welcome upgrade! This might not actually be the BOQ...

We had a pretty nice navy lodge on the west coast. :D

    Germany wasn’t bad either.

Here is one of many modest houses on the base, where officers and their families lived; The houses had central A/C, but they were old and small. My dad offered one of these houses back in 2005, but did not like it very much, and ended up renting a house about ten miles away in Doylestown that one of his Navy buddies owned...

The guy at the museum said that these houses have been totally destroyed due to years of neglect; They have holes in the roofs, serious mold, and around five feet of water in their basements. They will be torn down once it is decided what to do with the land...

This one does not to be in particularly bad condition, but I couldn't get that close, and I was only seeing it from the outside; I wonder if that Lennox air-conditioner still works?!?!

This one was nice, but the base closed six years after it was built, and it's been rotting ever since! :(

    Still thinking about it.
We (wife and I) have great memories of Navy Lodges in California.

Hey Charlie did you ever make it to the Ft. Eustis Army Transportation museum? I think you might like that. I went there during my one month on the east coast in my 50 year life so far.

Yes, I tried to get a closer shot of the air-conditioner at the NavyLodge, because I'm Charlie and it's what I do!

    :anonymous:

Appears to be a builder grade Carrier, likely a 10 or 12 SEER since the hotel was built in 2004-2005...

    9F51D128-59F8-41A8-BEA5-E864598B9903.jpg

I used my iPhone to take these pictures because my camera was too big to get a good shot through the fence. If this place has electrical service, and provided the unit held a charge, the A/C will probably still turn on and blow cold air!

Lennox Merit Series at the house closest to the museum; Appears to be 2001-2005, so not that old when the base was decommissioned and probably still works!
